Does the Genie Gen 3 and the 4K Genie Mini have to be hooked together

The way I'm setup is I have a Genie Gen 3, a wireless video bridge and a 4K Genie Mini all hooked up together.  Am I able to move the Genie Gen 3 to another TV or do they all need to be hooked up together?

There is no wireless C61K mini it is wired only.  Yes if the coax in the other room is connected to the SWM splitter  and it may need to be connected to the red power pass through port you can move the Genie.

Hello @gzaidi thank you for being part of the AT&T family. Let’s review your options for enjoying that 4K content!

First we would like to ask some questions about your equipment to be sure we are providing the best solution for you.

For your main unit otherwise known as the server or “Genie” we currently have two options for 4K capable Genie devices.

With the way that our 4K Genie Mini works you must have one of the main units listed above to provide the service to the mini.

You mentioned you also had a wireless video bridge. Because the Genie 2 has a built in wireless video bridge it sounds like you are in possession of an HR54 or “The Genie”. If this is the case than the 4K Genie Mini does not necessarily need to be in the same room as the main unit though it will require a hardwired connection to The Genie.

Should you be in possession of the Genie 2 things will be slightly different. The Genie 2 does not connect directly to a television set and is incapable of providing video without the 4K Genie Mini, therefor these two units must remain connected to one another.

We hope you are loving the latest 4K content @gzaidi, please let us know if this answers your question.

I have the HR54.  So I don't want to move the 4K Genie, I want to move the HR54 box, is that possible to move the HR54 box and the 4K Genie still work by itself?

The 3rd generation Genie (HR54) and the 4K Mini Genie Client (C61K, which is not wireless at all), must be on the same cabling. So you just can't have one in a detached building on a separate receiving dish because the Mini is a Client, not a receiver, so is dependent on the Genie to work.

The only reason both boxes would be on the same TV is if you are a single TV household. That is because the 4K requirements changed when the HR54 was too far into production so had to quickly come out with an updated Client for 4K service. So moving the HR54 to another TV would allow you to get more out of what you are paying for (since you are paying the $7 as if you had a 2nd TV).

Sorry, I wasn't meaning moving it to another building.  I put a TV in my basement and right now my family room has the HR54, the wireless bridge and the 4K genie all hooked together.  So are you saying that I could move the HR54 to my basement TV?

To answer your question @gzaidi.

Yes, you can move the receiver but it would still need to be hard wired for it to work. Please let us know if that helps.

I only mentioned the external building to clarify my answer. If same building, then it is the same coax network and receiving dish. In that case the HR54 and C61K should be on different TVs to get most out of what you are paying. I hope one day DirecTV with have a 4K receiver, not Client, for more valuable setup.

The wireless video bridge (WVB) has nothing to do with the 4K Genie (C61K). The only wireless models are C41W and C61W (hence the 'W') which are not 4K. The C61K (the only 4K model DirecTV has) is wired.

Most likely the HR54 is powering the SWM LNB so what ever coax it is connected to it has to be connected to the red power pass through port on the SWM splitter.

Thanks again for all the info, I took the HR54 to my basement TV and after going through all the checks after booting up I'm getting the 775 error code.  Is that now a separate issue?
