Does this equipment update contain additional costs?
received letter stating "Your DIRECTV equipment needs an update" and present equipment wont work.
it says there's no additional cost but has an asterick .... looking at the notes on reverse side of the letter it looks like you are trying to sell some genie or such equipment with it looks like a charge with a credit.offset...this bothers me when the credit might be withdrawn for stuff I don't kneed....like DVR I dont need recording stuff.......what's the long term effect of this change in regarding additional costs.????
when will the present equipment use fail? I may move in the future....will I have to move the dish to new location? I am 91 and can't crawl round a roof area.

Just stick with the FREE SWAP. Don't let them sell you on any upgrades. They will send a tech to upgrade your dish and swap your existing boxes.

If you move, you call DirecTV to place a movers order. They install dish and other equipment as needed at the new place. You just take the boxes with you.
MPEG swap is free, no service agreement, and any normal new monthly charges are credited as this is a required swap as opposed to an optional upgrade. Unclear if the monthly credits are ongoing until you choose to upgrade, or if for 12 or 24 months. Order confirmation should be read to confirm before install, just to be sure (regardless of what an agent might say).
What are the models of each box you have now?
Do you rely on the Autotune feature?
