If it is the old white universal RC6X series remote, you can program it for some 3rd party devices like a DVD player. You would need to go into the menu for the instructions of programming the code for the mode selection switch and TV input so you can change between them as needed.
If the new RC7X series remote, a.k.a. Genie or "peanut" style if you hold down the ENTER key it will activate the INPUT function (says it next to it). However this remote will not control the DVD player as just for the TV itself.
