DVR less than desirable

Surprising and annoying that the DVR cannot play a program and stop.  It will continue to play every episode you've recorded if you fall asleep and fail to stop it. Another issue is if you schedule to record 1 show, you can review it by ff through commercials or parts you don't like, but if your DVR decides to record it from On Demand, you will not be able to rewind or FF.  I haven't found a way to determine when and why it uses On Demand for a show that is scheduled for broadcast at a certain time.

If you set a manual record (through the guide by pressing the record button) it will only record from that channel (press once for individual program, twice for series). If from the search function instead, then it records from all sources so On Demand as well.

I agree that option should be cleaned up so that you can have it set to record from satellite only or from both as desired. This is something we have been wanting to update in the software for some time now. Would avoid a lot of duplicate recordings that way.

As for not being able to FF/REW On Demand, that is another matter. Since it is downloaded from the channel's online library, many of them treat it like streaming on their channel owned website to force commercials on us. More networks are doing this as it didn't used to this way. Really wish the loophole would close so that those networks cannot disable a paid DirecTV feature. We are still getting it through our DirecTV equipment, authorized by our DirecTV service, so pulling from online shouldn't make a difference. I find it unethical for all networks who do this.

Thank you for your valuable feedback, @timbuk2okc.

We will work on making your watching experience better. We suggest turning on the Power Saving Mode. This will turn your receiver off after 4 hours of inactivity. This will help with your recorded shows to not continuously play after you may fall asleep.

When it comes to which channel your desired show will be recorded on, try managing your recordings. You can do so by following the steps below:

  1. Press MENU on your remote.
  2. Go to Recordings and select View Playlist.
  3. Select Manage Recordings.

Once you've made it here select Typical Recording Preferences. This will allow you to set preferences on which shows are recorded.

Let us know if this information is helpful.
