Eero pro need to hook up to a genie 2 router

I have DSL internet because nothing else is available in my area. I got an eero pro with 1 extra beacon. I also have direct tv whole home dvr. I need to connect the main router for the dvr to the eero pro. How do I do this

There is nothing wrong with DSL internet. It is just one of several possible delivery methods. Depending on where one lives, this can be faster and more stable then other kinds of internet (such as cable).

The Eero Pro is intended more for speeds reaching 1Gbps, where the base version is for up to 550Mbps. Regardless, the beacon only supports WiFi for up to 350Mbps. So if your DSL internet is less than 500Mbps, the pro is a bit much unless you are planning for higher available speeds in the near future (either where you currently are or if you move).

The Genie-2 (HS17) is not a router as it doesn't provide internet service to your computer It is your HDDVR Server Tower which is what all the Mini Genie Clients are extensions of. It's only purpose is to provide your DirecTV service.

So hook up the Eero Pro and beacon to your modem (or router if not a modem/router combo unit) as their instructions show.

Once the Eero Pro is setup, then on one of your Mini Genie Clients go into the menu and Connect Now. Choose your wireless access point from the list that you want to connect to and then put in your password when requested. Remember the Genie-2 (HS17) and the 2nd/3rd generation Genie (HR44/HR54) that have the wireless option built-in support both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

If your Genie-2 (HS17) was connected to wireless router before, then you will need to go into Menu > Settings > Internet > Advanced where you can reset the network defaults. This will tell it to forget the old wireless router and password so you can set the new one (otherwise it will try to reconnect to the old option).

Though wired is still preferred over wireless. If the Eero Pro doesn't fit your needs, and your internet router is not in a good place to run an Ethernet cable, then consider a Powerline adapter instead. Uses your homes existing electrical wiring to provide a wired connection. Because it is wired, it tends to lose less bandwidth than wireless. Don't use this method if you have issues with your home wiring of course.

DTV is not an ISP so they don't have routers.

If you have an HR44/54 Genie or the HS17 Genie2 then they can use WiFi or an Ethernet cable to connect to the internet.

You need to reset the network defaults then rerun network setup then choose which network and then add the password.
