Sure. What are your current receiver models? They can be found on the front access card door. I ask because it may make more sense to swap an SD receiver and/or obsolete receiver for the Genie HD DVR rather than an up-to-date H24 or H25 receiver.
The H24-700 is a standalone HD receiver. Since you only have one box, this is the one that would be changed out for an HR44, HR54, or HS17 depending on stock. If you receive the HS17, a client is required as the HS17 is not a standalone receiver, a client is required.
The technician may have to change the dish setup if your H24-700 is on a legacy non-SWM setup, which I think it is.
Hi @Gtanks, we're here to help you with your equipment upgrade.
Let's meet in a Direct Message to take a closer look on this. Please check your DIRECTV Message Inbox (It's the chat icon next to the bell icon in the upper right corner of the Forums)
Santiago, did you take the time to acknowledge any of our comments? The OP's question is currently being answered and your presence right now is not needed. @Gtanks please ignore directvhelp as our recommendations are better than any of theirs. They will also likely make a mistake and have a misleading answer. Also, you will definitely need to CALL IN to make this order.
I think there is a reason to take the conversation privately if you say a genie isn't built for a single TV. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant but a genie is meant for a single TV and if you're on the all included you're not charged the upgraded DVR fee nor the 7 dollar access fee.
If you don't mind me asking, if not a genie then what? HD DVRS can only be added by dealers and a genie lite defeats the purpose of whole home. So a genie would be the only option.
@Tired_of_technology directvhelp doesn't do their job, they mislead the customer. We ACEs have seen this happen one too many times. Also, the HS17 receiver is the only receiver being installed these days and this receiver requires a client in order for the customer to watch television.
The OP posted because they are looking to replace their current standalone HD receiver (H24) with an HD DVR Genie.
A genie 2 is definitely not the only one being installed. Especially if you only have one TV. If you only have one TV there's no point in adding a genie 2, unless you have to have a wireless box that you want to move around to other TV in the home.
The Genie is not built for a single TV home. It is DirecTV's Advanced Whole Home HDDVR. So it requires the $3 Whole Home DVR service. As that is for sharing recordings with the receiver/clients on your other TVs, you cannot use that feature with only a single TV.
The $7 has nothing to do with the Genie. You pay $7 for each additional TV on the service. Customers who activated before late 2015 don't pay the $7 for the Primary TV. Upgrading the box does not change how this is billed.
Those same older customers pay $10 for HD service, $10 for DVR, and $3 for Whole home DVR. If you have activated after late 2015 when the billing model changed, then HD service is included, but you pay the $7 for the 1st TV authorized. Then Advanced Receiver $15 which covers both DVR services.
The "All Included" plans were activated with DVRs to begin with. So the primary TV fee and receiver services are already added in the cost (rounded up the penny). As the OP has an HD non-DVR, then they wouldn't have the All Included and most likely are a pre-2015 customer.
I would never suggest the Genie Lite (H44) as causes too much confusion. They never made a 2nd model. Too many 3rd party retailers misrepresented the model. It does not defeat the purpose of whole home. The intention was to have a lower cost point to start without DVR service, and then you could update later by adding in the DVR upgrade kit (proprietary hard drive for the Genie Lite) which was shipped to you instead of a tech install to make it easier. But of course too many of those 3rd party dealers claimed it was a DVR from the get-go without paying for DVR service.
Claiming HDDVRs can only be added by dealers is flat out wrong. I've gotten every single one of my HDDVRs from an upgrade with DirecTV. I agree it is harder to order one as stock dwindles (since new ones haven't been made in a while) and agents hard push the Genie systems. In particular the Genie-2 (HS17) is the one most often pushed. Since the Genie-2 forbids other receivers (HDDVRs or not), naturally the agents cannot order one with it.
@Juniper yeah I'm not reading all of that. But if you're on the all included package there is no 3 dollar whole home, nor a 10 dollar dvr fee. Since none of us can see his account its best to let someone who can see the account make the recommendations because it does make a difference in the billing. And yes, I'm sorry but a genie is made for a single home. There's no other option if you want to record but to have a genie unless you go through a dealer who can give you a HD dvr if they have it in stock.
@Juniper and again I'm sorry. It's not wrong. You can not get a HD DVR. Feel free to call now and ask for one. You don't have to have them submit the order but call and talk to them. Heck call loyalty since they're the only ones that get things done and see what they tell you. It can't be done I promise you.

Good thing you are checking in the forum before calling and placing the order. Some agents don't go for what is best for your personal setup.
What are the exact models of each box you have?
Why are you looking to replace your existing HDDVR?

Is the H24 the only box you have?
If so, are you looking into adding a 2nd TV on your service?
The Genie is not built or service priced for a single TV home.

Absolutely no reason to take this discussion to "private message". Crazy.

I have two of the boxes. One in the living room and one in the bedroom. I’m wanting to add one outdoors on the patio.
