Fast Forward and Pixelation Issues

I have three symptoms on my 8 week old HR24-100 which may or not be related.

1)  I have noticed when two programs are recording and I'm watching a third recorded show, fast forwarding does not act normally. The video will split horizontally into two different views (one on the bottom 1/3 of the screen fixed in time, the other jerky and behind in time). I have not seen this when recording only one show.

2) I have an AM21 for OTA locals. One channel (PBS HD) can be pixelated on the recordings but the signal strength is 85 for both tuners. It is 85 for all our locals unless I purposely change something that makes it worse. It doesn't seem possible to get to 100 with my system. I have not seen any pixelation live, only on recordings.

3) Some recordings will not allow me to fast forward at speed 2 or above. The recording will jump to the end and show the "delete?" screen. I can fast forward on speed 1 without issues. Sometimes this applies to recordings that are pixelated sometimes there are no obvious problems until I try to fast forward. I'm not sure if this is limited to OTA channels or not.

I have yet to notice this on a satellite channel but the DVR is fairly new to me at this point. I do recall trying to watch some movies recorded from a DTV source that skipped to the end so it may have been happening earlier and I didn't realize the recording was actually there -- I probably assumed the recording failed for some reason and deleted it.

I ran the system test from the menus and two of the diagnostics under Hard Drive Utilities (File System Verification and SMART Short Test) -- all passed. I'll try to run the longer tests this weekend.

Thanks for any help!

please post your signals readings

You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners. If you have a DVR it's important to check BOTH satellite tuners.

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner on the new post you create, using the example below as a guide. (The example below is only an example and not a form that will appear in your post unless you "cut" and "paste" it.) A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

I ran the long SMART test and it passed. Any thoughts?

hmmm.  not sure what else to suggest.  your signal readings are good and you ran the surface tests successfully.  I do not have experience with the AM21 tuner, and not sure if that is your problem.  let's see if the other guys chime in with suggestions.....

Would it be worthwhile to run the "Surface Test"?  I didn't go there for fear of data loss and did only the SMART tests.

Yes, try running the surface test.

I ran the surface test (menu selection #4) last night, letting it run while we slept. I expected to see the results screen this morning but instead the receiver had finished its re-start and was running normally. So, I don't know what the results were or what the receiver exiting diagnostics might mean. Is there a way to see the results after a completed restart?
