Functional SATA port on Genie 2 for an external hard drive?

Before I go ahead and switch to the Genie 2, and given that the SATA port on the HR54-200 is non-functional (no SATA port on HR54-500 or HR 700), can you tell me for sure that the SATA port on the Genie 2 actually works for an external hard drive?

Thanks

Please stop creating new threads for same issue. Keep to one thread otherwise info gets lost.

The Genie-2 like all regular Genies does support eSATA drive. No official hard cap. As mentioned in other threads the Genie-2 is a restrictive and still somewhat buggy system. Any software glitch that has occurred for some customers not allowing an external drive to be used wouldn't matter if it is the HR54 or HS17 as they use the same software.

0x1469 fixed it.

Quote "I am very pleased to report that the problem I reported previously, namely instability while using large internal or external hard drives, has been fixed. I am now able to access the 14TB internal drive that I was using prior to 13AF normally. All other functionality also appears normal so far.

I have manually attempted (using 02468 input after red button restart at blue screen) to update the software on the HR54-200. Software before the upgrade was 0x1420 and the same 0x1420 after the upgrade. How do I upgrade the software to the 0x1469, which you state is a fix for external hard drive? (thru the SATA connection on the HR54-200).

Thanks

you can't. 1420 is the latest national releasefor the HR54. when directv decides to make 1469 (or a newer version) a national release you'll  get it. Don't know when that will be.

sometimes directv releases these new versions progressively but we don't get a warning of that. some people get the new releases to test prior to national release and I think this was one of those situations. For all I know 1469 has other issues preventing its release. My post was simply for information that this problem is a bug and therefore one assumes will be corrected.

noone at Directv can make this happen sooner, it's part of the engineering program. If you call, the CSRs don't even know this release exists.

That's very helpful info - lifting some of the cloudy view in this on going saga of mine...

Another commenter on this topic stated that if it was a software issue (which I think you have confirmed) it would be the same problem with the Genie 2 as it is with the  HR-54 200, since they both use the same software. As far as you know, would that be the case that the Genie 2 would have the same bug (same SATA functionality issue) and not be fixed until a specific upgrade was also applied?

FYI

Software upgrade 1472 on Dec 5, 2020 for my HR-54-200 corrected the problem with the SATA port. I am using an 8 TB external hard drive with no problems after upgrade. Thanks for all the comments especially TexasBrit alerting me to it being a software issue.

Note - Directv has since followed with a 1474 software upgrade without any problems with the SATA port.
