Gemini

DirecTV installed three Gemini units during the summer of 2024.  When a DirecTV technician came out in November due to issues with the Gemini units, the technician told us the Gemini is not compatible with Genie, that we never should have been sold on the Gemini product so long as we have a Genie.

The technician told us we must upgrade to Genie 2 in order to have any hope of the Gemini unit working correctly.

Was your technician lying to us, or is the Gemini only compatible with Genie 2?

AFAIK the Gemini is just another mini client that is compatible with the HR44/HR54/H44 and the HS17Genie2 with the ability to stream from streaming services without the need to change the TV input.  The tech may believe what they said.

Gemini is a Client that can work with the regular Genie line. Some have even co-located a Gemini with the 3rd generation Genie (HR54) so they don't have to add a TV fee to get 4K in a single-TV household.

Since DirecTV was heavily pushed into the Genie-2 (HS17) setups, it could go either way. The tech might be lying or just very uninformed on compatibility with earlier setups. Whether on purpose or lack of knowledge, what the tech told you was wrong.
