Genie 2 and external hard drives

Pretty sure I’m out of luck, but thought I would ask. Just got genie 2 to replace hr54. Had external plugged into the 54. No esata port on the genie 2. Any way to retrieve those shows on external? Thanks

NO- they are encrypted to the receiver they were attached to --since that is gone --you have a extra HDD to use elsewhere.

the genie2 does have a 2TB HDD installed

The Genie-2 (HS17) is made with an eSATA port. Unless they have a revised model, like the HR54R1, where they are not including the port going forward. But originally they were made with the eSATA port.

However, you still lose the recordings on the external hard drive. This is because recordings are encrypted to the exact DVR and are not transferable.

...but you wouldn't be able to move the recordings anyway...as juniper posted

Seems like the HS17 was the most important to have an eSATA port. You can't replace Clients with HDDVRs to have additional hard drives so that makes the 2TB a hard cap just like the tuners.
