Genie and HD DVR

We have had a genie, mini genies and an HD DVR for years.  But since last summer our HD DVR isn't able to view the recordings on the genie unless we reset the genie.  Then it will be good a for a few days.  It gives us an error message that to many recordings are being watched (no one else is watching!).  They have sent techs out and they replace little things thinking it will fix and nope does the same thing all the time.  I am hesitant to switch to the Genie 2 as we had a nightmares with that years ago and got our old equipment back.  Any one out there have any advice?

Which GENIE (model) do you Now have? How many Mini's Do you Have and How many HDDVR'S.

Note if the MINI's are Powered On (while) the TV is OFF --they still take a tuner Away (use) a tuner from the GENIE --even if your TV is off.

if you are recoding on the genie (has 5 Tuners) and you mini's are powered on --Then depending it would also interfere with HDDVR Playback over MOCO .

I'm just guessing list your equipment please.

What are the models of each box (Genie, HDDVR, Mini Genie Clients, etc.)?

Is it just the one HDDVR that keeps disconnecting from Whole Home DVR?

To verify did you do the reset, or unplug power for a minute, in a specific order?

Genie > WVB > Client > HDDVR > HD non-DVR

Were any of the receivers or clients replaced?

Nothing has been replaced for many years.  We have 3 mini genies

one HD44-500

one HD24-500

All the boxes are powered and we still get the error when trying to watch from the HD24-500 (DVR).  The only way it will work is to reboot the HD44-500 (genie gen 2) everyday.  Lasts about one day.  Never and issue from the minis.

Thanks!

That would be HR, not HD, but otherwise verifies last regular HDDVR and the 2nd generation Genie which are both good models. The Mini Genies being Clients will have model number starting with C.

Since Whole Home DVR is having the boxes networked with each other to share the recording data, I would highly suggest doing the reset (or full power cycle) on all the boxes in the order I suggested. Just make sure coax is finger tight to each box first.

It is possible that since resetting the Genie temporarily fixes it, that it may need a warranty replacement. But Whole Home DVR is a two way street so best to make sure with the above suggestion. Hopefully you can get it resolved before that point. If not, just make sure to be caught up on the recordings first as they don't transfer from the DVR that is replaced.

Yes the genie and hddvr have had a hard reset and all the connections confirmed to be tight.   We have had 4 techs out as well.  No one has mentioned replacing the genie...

One lady via the phone suggested we upgrade to the Genie 2 but this was horrible years ago.

Should you wish to have the GENIE --replaced --When you call Say the Receiver will NOT power on --That will save you a lot of (phone) time.

Reminder: replacing any HDDVR will result in the loss of all recordings as they can NOT be transferred

So should we take the free upgrade to the Genie 2 (tower thing) and do away with the hddrv?

Yes- I think the HS-17 (tower) is more stable today than when it first came out.  It will also allow 2  4K streams so if you have 4k TV's get C61K's -(mini's) at each location

Ok that is what I was wondering if the glitches had been worked out. I thought I saw somewhere that people were having to reset constantly.  So either we need the tower or a new regular genie??

Do NOT upgrade to the Genie-2 (HS17). It only allows clients, so problems affect all TVs. Plus is a downgrade to the flexibiilty of your setup. Use your next free upgrade to replace a Mini Genie Client with an HDDVR to get the 2 tuners and 500GB recording space plus additional reliability with independent processing. A Genie and 2 HDDVRs is 9 tuners, more than the Genie-2 allows. Plus everybody can manage all the recordings on the Genie-2 setup, but with your HDDVRs you have more personal control.

When needed call DirecTV and inform them the Genie no longer powers on. A replacement is $19.95 delivery. As noted the recordings on the one box replaced do not transfer over.

IF you wish to keep your HDDVR'S -the replace the GENIE with what you have now --Should you go with the HS-17 --You can NOT have any HDDVR"S or HD receivers On your Account only Mini's.
