Genie and HDMI problem

Called for Service.  Problem is similar to others:  HDMI signal from Genie to TV HDMI Input 2 was at first intermittent and then didn't work at all.  775 notice signal loss from dish.  Serviceman replaced the dish LNB.  Upon starting up Genie, client box had good picture but it appeared that no HDMI signal was going to the TV.  Serviceman replaced the Genie box with another.  Same result: picture on client box but no HDMI signal to TV.  I switched the cable to another input on the TV and, again, no HDMI signal from the new box.  Serviceman switched out the HDMI cable for a 'new' one and still, no HDMI signal from Genie box to TV.  I tried to tell him that I knew the TV input (#4) was working as I had checked it out earlier and had no problem displaying the HDMI signal from an Apple TV box.  When I tried to tell him that the input (#4) was working, he raised his voice stating that made no difference, that he's had this problem many times before and the problem rested with my TV HDMI input being bad.  He brought in component cables, hooked them up and said that's as good as he could do.  He seemed to be knowledgeable about what he was doing but refused to explain why one device could transfer HDMI signals with no problem to the TV port and the Genie could not.  He did solve the intermittent no signal problem with replacing the LNB but now I'm going to feed the HDMI signal from the Genie box to the HDMI input on a small tv I have just to see if there's any output.  We'll see and may be calling for service again.

Have you had any storms recently', lightning strikes etc?

Yes, a lot of rain over two days but no lightning.  Prior to the serviceman replacing the LNB,  the HDMI port on the tv was displaying the '775 signal lost' message.  AFTER he replaced the LNB, he was unable to get the older Genie or the new Genie to send any picture to the HDMI port.

Follow up to problem:  Today, I took a small TV and a KNOWN good HDMI cable and began the process of unplugging the component cables (all equipment off) from the Genie box and the Sony TV.  I then plugged the HDMI cable from the small tv to the Genie.  Turned on both the Genie and the small TV and was immediately greeted with a picture from the Genie.

I shut everything down.  I took the HDMI cable from the Genie and connected it to the HDMI2 jack on my Sony TV.  I then powered up the TV and changed the input to the HDMI 2 jack.  I turned on the Genie and I immediately had a good picture.  So.......I believe the 'NEW' HDMI cable that the tech used might have been bad.  I did learn that HDMI ports 'lock up' if you don't power done both the TV and the HDMI device you're plugging in.  It 's possible that may have contributed to the problem.  I hope my explanation helps someone else going through a similar problem.

This might be a timing issue, it's been reported with some TVs. When the genie starts up, it sends a message to the TV to check that the TV has the HDCP copy protection enabled. If the TV does not respond the genie shuts off the HDMI connection. Some TVs are slow to respond when they are powering up. If this is the issue, you need to make sure the TV has powered up before you turn on the genie.

The 775 issue was something completely different. You get a 775 when the LNB at the dish is not correctly receiving power from the SWM power inserter. This can be the power inserter not being correctly powered up, a cabling issue, or a failure of either the power inserter or the LNB at the dish.

Thanks for the good info on a possible timing problem.  We'll be sure in the future to make sure the tv is powered up before turning on the Genie.
Also, if you see the 775 warning, the HDMI port is working.  My problem was traced to a defective LNB.

@TexasBrit

Never mind the vague post with broken English, but now @barens34 has posted a scam link. So not a real customer but a crook.

The HDMI port wasn't reporting anything that was the DTV receiver and the 775 error code has nothing to do with the HDMI port having a problem.
