What DVR/Receiver model number(s) do you currently have?

I'm using a AM21 with a HR44 Genie.  I suspect it would also work on a HR54.

The HS-17 is a newer generation, It may not work.

If you can, I would recommend keeping one HR24 with the AM21, and getting a HR44 or HR54. (No mini's).

I also bought an AM21 off of ebay and I'm using that with an HR24. (But ebay & AM21s can be risky)

There are those who are using the AM21 with the regular Genie.

The 2nd/3rd generation Genie (HR44/HR54) are preparing for the Local Channel Connector (LCC). This is the successor to the AM21, but is still in testing.

Since you have two HR24s, if you do a Genie upgrade, only replace one. Do NOT replace the 2nd with a Mini Genie Client as the HR24 works with the Genie. Remember like any other DVR replacement, recordings do not transfer, so be caught up on that box first.

Do not get the Genie-2 (HS17) as it only allows Clients so would replace both HR24s and has not been compatible to the LCC or the AM21, so would remove all option for using the regular antenna through DirecTV and would have to connect to TV itself to change inputs back and forth.

You have to call DTV for that.  This is a customer to customer forum with no access to any accounts.
