Getting :too many active locations" on several minis.
I spoke with "help" and after an hour, the TV's all worked. They all started again the next day. Is there a sequence that will reset all minis? I have four minis, two connected to cable and four that are wireless.
We are very frustrated.
Please help

Are you using a HR44 or a HR54 -Those only Support # minis active at any one time, The HS17-Will only Support 7 Minis at a time.
With the HR44 or HR54 -You could Swap out you Minis for a H24 The Minis Take a Tuner away from the HR'S that why Four won't work Unless one is watching recorded content if they are watching "LIVE" TV it's a No go.
If you Have a HS-17 You cannot have any other receivers Except Minis.

They cannot just send someone out. That is $99 for a service call.
With "too many active locations" either you are trying to use more Clients in use then your main Genie allows, or it in error thinks there are too many.
First make sure coax is finger tight to all boxes. Then red button reset the main Genie and when finished do the same one at a time with each Client. If that doesn't resolve it then unplug power from all boxes for a couple minutes and one at a time plug them back in starting with the main Genie. The difference with pulling power is it completely clears cached memory which means it has to download guide data again which may take between 24-48 hours to be complete.
What are the models of every box you have? Knowing what and how many will help determine if your setup has any concerns.

Thank You! I just spent over an hour with DirecTV. The “agent” had me do what you said. They all work now, but they won’t later. I did this process last week and the same issue returned. As far as the main box: HR44. I have six minis, two wired and four wireless. Thanks again. If you have any other information. I would be grateful.

You have a regular Genie (HR44 is the 2nd generation) with 6 Mini Genie Clients? There is the problem.
The regular Genie has 5 tuners, but because of Picture in Picture (PiP) it reserves 2 to itself. That means only up to 3 Clients may be in use at one time. Remember if you are recording anything, each of those takes 1 tuner. You have double the amount of Clients that could be in use at most.
This is why I prefer HDDVRs over Clients as 2 tuners each, additional recording space, and they don't all rely on one box. Your setup is overwhelming the HR44.
If the Genie and 6 Clients is all your boxes, and you don't intend to have more TVs, then I would consider the Genie-2 (HS17). It is 7 tuners, no PiP, has 2TB recording space (your HR44 has 1TB) and doesn't allow other dedicated receivers. This means it can use up to 7 Clients at the same time, which is what you would end up with since you have 7 TVs (Genie-2 doesn't go on a TV itself as just does the server portion feeding each Client).
It is rare that I suggest the Genie-2 since I prefer dedicated boxes over Clients for more capability and reliability. But in your situation it would be a drastic improvement and because it is built for up to 7 Clients that is expected to prevent the issue you are experiencing since you have WAY too many Clients for the Genie you have.
