Got a call saying DTV was upgrading its signal and that it would no longer suffer from rain fade, is this true?

No. Sounds like a scam call. What did they want from you?

That is a scam. Rain fade is a fact for satellite service. Having your dish in optimal alignment is the only protection. With good alignment there should be little if no interruption, but nature has the say in the end.

There is a real change in service that those scammers are trying to piggy back on. DirecTV has been shutting down their old MPEG-2 feeds since April 2019. They are providing a complimentary swap for affected customers, but they only send a notice and have you call in, they don't call you. What are the models of your boxes?
