DirecTV stopped offering SD-only/non-HD boxes back in late 2015. And HD options became available about 20 years ago. If you don't have HD then you have a legacy setup in need of updating.
What are the models of each box you have now? That will help narrow down your options (upgrade or MPEG swap).

Most DTV receivers are already HD so it sounds like you still have SD MPEG2 receivers so you need to call DTV for their free MPEG4 swap offer.
