HD24-500 Receiver
I need to get a HD24-500 receiver for my RV, but I am having a hard time finding it. I have also heard that Directv is no longer activating these boxes. Can you give me the real scoop?

We're looking for the same thing, was on the phone yesterday with who we thought was directv, but we were transferred 6 times to several different departments (AT&T) who had no clue of what we were asking for. The changes are expected but when the person/person who has been hired to disburse the info isn't informed of the changes who does the consumer need to contact for help?

AFAIK it depends on what accounting system you are on, the new RC1 account will not allow you to activate them unless you get them from DTV however there are still third party dealers selling them online like Solid signal and Weaknees.

Part of the problem is HD24 is not a model number. You either mean H24 or HR24. Both of those models haven't been made in years. They have been pushing Genie setups, especially the Genie-2 (HS17) client only system (not RV friendly) very hard.
As such it has been tricky to get one activated, even if you obtain one from an authorized 3rd party seller (such as Solid Signal). Though H25 being a SWM-only box like the Genies, may be easier to obtain and activate. That is the last non-Genie box to be made.
In either case you need a slimline SWM dish on a tripod/sled mount or the Winegard Trav'ler (DirecTV version of course) for the RV. Earlier options only support DirecTV's MPEG-2/SD-only which is shutting down.
