HDMI IN 1or HDMI IN 2 (eARC) for DirecTV satellite?

We just got a brand new Samsung SmartTV and I noticed there are several choices to connect the DirecTV box to the back of the TV.   We are using a Satellite connection, not streaming.   Although, I am going to attempt to put in Amazon Firestick, so some of the programs will be streamed.  The possible HDMI connections I see are:    1) HDMI IN 1 OR  2) HDMI IN 2 (eARC)  OR DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (optical)?    Which HDMI port is best to use in my situation?

Thanks for any help.

You should do HDMI2 eARC because of the Enhanced audio. Put the fire stick in HDMI1. To be honest, there really isn’t a difference in HDMI ports.

To clarify that optical port is neither an input or HDMI. It is used to take audio from the TV to external speakers or an audio receiver.

If you're connecting DirecTV box directly to the TV it doesn't matter. If you were to connect the DirecTV box to a AV receiver which then connected to the TV you would use the earc port to connect the AV receiver to the tv. That way the TV can send an audio signal back to the av receiver as well receive a video signal on the same hdmi cable. Arc stands for audio return channel so it's used when you are using AV receiver or sound bar and want want to output audio back on that port.
