HDMI Stopped Working on Both my HR24-100's

I have 2 HR24-100's and yesterday morning I awoke to find that the HDMI output on BOTH units had stopped working! I tried unplugging AND hard resetting to no avail. I have had the new units for less than 90 days and this will be the 3rd replacement! I previously had DirecTV with TiVo units for many years and only had 2 units ever fail over a 10 year period. Now this will be 3 bad units in 2 months! I already had one of the tuner’s quit on one of the HR24’s and subsequently replaced.

 

Don't get me wrong the new units have some great features BUT what good are features if the units keep failing? The TiVo units were reliable!

there must be something in your set up that is causing the HDDVR's to fail.  are you using a UPS to power those HDDVR's?

1st received had 1 of the 2 tunners die. DTV replaced it.

 

HDMI quit on 2nd & 3rd units on the same day at the same time. The units were connected to 2 diferent TVs, in 2 different rooms. Nothing special, no UPS but both do have surge suppressors. I also have 2 HD receives in the same house which also are connected to TV's via an HDMI cable and they are still working. Both TV's where the HDMI suddenly died, previously had DTV TiVo units connected for many years with no issues.

 

The entire new system was installed by DTV "professionals". If something is setup wrong then the DTV installer did it.

 

I don't really see what could be wrong. It seems to me that the new HD-DVR's are just "buggy".

is your dish grounded to your house common ground?  there are millions of customers with these HDDVR's, so I highly doubt that these receivers are "buggy"  and a UPS is highly recommended on HDDVR's.  the "surge protectors" do the same job as a $3.00 extension cord.

I don't know if it is grounded to house ground or not. The dish is mounted on a pole which is buried in the ground. It was all installed by a DTV installer. They are coming back "again" (5thtime in 2 months) tomorrow, what should I ask them about concerning a ground?

you need to make sure that the dish gets bonded to the pole using a grounding strap, and then the coaxes should be grounded with a ground block to the house common ground.  keep us posted

The pic attached shows a 4 coax ground block bonded to the service ground.  These are also available for single coax used on SWM systems.  The ground is absolutely required by Directv and having the post in the ground is not sufficient.

Just FYI, virtually the only thing that can kill the HDMI ports is a house electrical issue. We've seen many posts of lightning strikes killing HDMI, on  DVRs (DirecTV and others) and also on TVs themselves.  Surge protection is useless in solving these problems.
