Help on getting receiver
I'm currently wanting to get an hr24 as I already have an hr54 and an h24, and I'm getting it from solid signal since I don't want a truck roll, but I need to know if the solid signal can ship it to an address other than the one on the DTV account because I'm having issues receiving packages at my house so I want to know if it can get sent to a friends house then they give it to me. Also, can solid signal/ DTV activate it because I know some people have issues with them, but I called solid signal and they said they are still able to be bought and activated.

Sure, just change the shipping address to reflect the friend’s house.
Solid Signal should definitely be able to activate the receiver since they were the ones who sent you it in the first place. Call their number (somewhere on their website SolidSignal.com), give them all of your necessary receiver information and account information, and they should have the activation done in 15-20 minutes. As it is a ‘manual’ activation and they need to make an order for the HR24 receiver to activate it properly on your account, the process can get lengthier.
Solid Signal is correct. HR24s can still be purchased via third-parties and activated. Just stay away from eBay as those receivers may sometimes be on other people’s accounts or stolen/marked as fraud.

You should only need a truck roll if you are adding a 3rd TV as they need to install all the cabling for the new room. Benefit of SWM is it is one cable regardless of model. On the old cabling, if you replaced the H24 with an HR24 then it would have absolutely been a truck roll as DVRs needed two cables (1 per tuner).
Solid Signal is not attached to your account as is an authorized 3rd party retailer just providing equipment. However you will not have a free upgrade as that is only if you get the box through the company (if they have any left as regular HDDVRs haven't been made in years). Plan for $199 for the one-time lease cost (or possibly more as those boxes become rarer). And upon activation you will have a new 24-month service agreement as the box is still owned by DirecTV (even if model is no longer returnable, as that is the Terms of Service for leased equipment).
Hope it all goes well. An HDDVR is more capable and reliable than a Mini Genie Client in so many ways. I hope the new co-owner will start making proper receivers again, as it seemed for a while AT&T was trying to force us to a client-only setup.
