Help - SLOW menus after DirecTV Cinema Connection Kit

I have successfully installed my DirectTV Cinema connection kit without any issues. This connects my Whole Home DVR (DirecTV H24-500) to my wireless internet router. The WEP security key worked fine, the internet works fine, it's fast, no problems there. I can stream movies from the internet just fine. Works great.

HOWEVER, all my DirecTV menus are now super slow. For instance if I'm watching TV and I hit the Guide button it takes a full 8-10 seconds for the guide menu to actually show up. Same with other commands (List, etc). Simply changing channels takes about 5 seconds. I had no such problems prior to installing the Cinema connection kit.

Note that I have had this installed for a couple of weeks so it has had plenty of time to download/update anything it might need. I do leave my Whole Home DVR powered on most of the time though I did turn it off for one night in case that might have helped.

The DVR otherwise performs normally (I can still watch TV and record things, etc). The menus are just maddeningly slow. My DVR is currently about half full as far as disk capacity in case that matters.

Thanks for any help.

As I stated in my post, it has been in place for about 2 weeks now with no improvement.

Thanks

Clear NVRAM to speed up DVR performance:

Go to channel 1. Once the page is operating including audio, use the remote and press Red, Red, Blue, Blue, Yellow, Green in exactly that order. This must be done quickly. Otherwise the yellow press will bring up a quick options menu. That will display a message about the NVRAM being cleared in the lower left. Turn "Scrolling Effects" to off. This is in the Display-->Preferences menu. Uncheck all of the resolutions under HDTV in the TV Resolutions menu except 720p or 1080i and 1080p, depending on whether you have a 720/768 or 1080 TV or turn Native off.

I followed your instructions and successfully cleared the NVRAM. Scrolling Effects was already set to off. I changed my TV resolutions to those you specified.

There is no change. Again, if I am watching TV and click on MENU, it takes roughly 10 seconds for anything to happen. This problem started the instant I installed the DirecTV Cinema Connection Kit two weeks ago. Prior to installing the kit it took maybe 1 second for the MENU button to work.

Thanks

Not sure why the DirecTV CCK would affect this.  What happens if you disconnect the CCK's power?

I turned it off - in fact I tried completely disconnecting it and going back to the original connection - and it did not fix the problem.

This did start the instant I hooked up the CCK though. The menus worked fine - even after the new menu system was released - until I hooked up the CCK.

Any other ideas?

The problem remains. I have the CCK completely disconnected and the network settings turned off.

If I'm watching a taped show and hit fast forward or rewind it responds immediately. Changing channels is not toooo bad. But when I go to the Menu or the Guide it takes around 10 seconds for either one to appear. Hitting EXIT from the Menu or Guide also takes about 10 seconds to get back to a show. This is very frustrating, and I know it doesn't have to be this way because it was MUCH faster until a couple of weeks ago when I connected the CCK.

Thanks for any help.

Obviously it's not a problem with the CCK. Something else happened coincidentally.  You've tried the standard tips to improve performance, so not sure what else to suggest, other than replacing the box.

It's either coincidentally, or more likely something changed on the box during the setup of the CCK. Ie, it probably was NOT a coincidence that it happened at the exact same moment.

Maybe I will try setting the box back to full default settings and go from there.

I have this exact same issue with mine and I also have the same setup with the Wireless Internet Connection Kit.  My menus take a good 5-10 seconds to come up and even when scrolling through the Guide, it takes a good 3-6 seconds on avg for the guide to scroll.  I followed some of the advice in this thread but nothing has changed the outcome.  I even cleared out all of my DVR shows that were saved.

It almost seems like there are faulty units out there.   I am wondering if the Original Poster got their unit replaced or had anything else done?

I have the same exact issue, installed the Cinema connection kit yesterday and now my remote is slow as death.  Also I have noticed that if i hit the right arrow to bring up the internet menu, it never actually comes up.  Has anyone found a solution to this?

I forgot to mention that everywhere in the directions it tells you not to connect the Ethernet cable to the DVR, if you have whole home DVR,  but you have to connect it to make the Internet piece work

The Cinema Connection Kit either wireless or standard doesn't connect to your DVR through its Ethernet connection. The Wireless Connection kit can be connected in the SWM coax system using the equipment that is shipped in the case. Refer to the setup manuel that comes with it, the Ethernet cable that comes with it is onlly for non-SWM and non-WHDVR systems. The DECA BB will need to connect to your home router and needs a coax connection that is connected to your SWM system.

The only answer I can guess is causing the slow user guide is that Directv is getting ready to do a National launch of its new HD user interface. Probably causing little issues to current user interface. Best advise is to sit tight and wait until the new UI gets downloaded. It will be well worth the wait.

You cannot use the HD DVR's ethernet port for internet connectivity when you have Whole Home DVR Service. The only way to get internet connectivity with a DECA-based WHDVR setup is using DirecTV's Cinema Connection Kit. This provides the installer with a Broadband DECA Adapter and power supply that will bridge the WHDVR network (DECA coax) with your home network/internet (ethernet). Call them and request that an installer come back to finish the job. This should have been provided with your WHDVR installation.

I ordered the wireless cinema connection kit. I followed the directions and could not get it to work. I called Direct TV support, they told me to connect the Ethernet cable, and it made it work, but now I have the slow issue.  Just to be clear it was Direct TV that told me to hook it up different than the instructions.
