***HELP***

I purchased an HD tv and called to upgrade my dvr.  Both arrived and I set them both up last night but am not able to see any HD channels.  I also am not able to change the satellite to Slimline 5 which is what is on my house.  I already have an HD tv in the home and tried to match the satellite information but the new tv/dvr won't take it.  The set up keeps going back to the previous dish which I think is LNB 3.  I don't know what to do.  Any help??

press the dash key (-) on your remote on the existing HD receiver.  does the pop up screen says SWM connected?

The very next screen you would see is to call Directv to activate your receiver, so I would go ahead and call them now. They can verify your dish type and walk you through the rest of the setup to make sure everything's working properly.

Without a SWM dish as alluded to in post #2, you'll need a set of BBC modules on the sat input of the HR22.  Without those you'll get no HD.  If you do have a SWM system, you won't use the BBC's.

No-when I press dash on the existing receiver all I get is receiver information.  Probably the id#.  Nothing about SWM.

I did call Directv last night to activate the new receiver which is how i know I don't have HD channels.  When I press the dash for the new receiver I get a different number.  Comparing it to the box the receiver came in it is the id#.  Should I call again?  I tried to do a refresh this morning.  Didn't work.

The instructions that came with the new receiver said to install the BBC's and I did that.  I connected my incoming cables to them.  2 BBC's-2 incoming cables.

Now what should I do?  I do appreciate this conversation.

what message are you getting when you try to tune to an HD channels.  Perhaps your HD channels are hidden.  If this is the case go to MENU=>SET UP=> SYSTEM SET UP =>DISPLAY.  make sure that "HIDE SD DUPLICATES" is selected.

What other receivers do you have?  When you try to select channel 281, what message do you see on the screen?

Other receiver is H21-200 and can get channel 281.  New receiver has message channel not available.  I've just spent the last 3 hours trying to figure out if it is set up incorrectly but I just can't seem to put my finger on it.

Make sure that you are selecting the right dish type.  for you it should be either slimline 3 or 5.  And switch type as MULTISWITCH

Agreed. It sounds like it is on 02: 3 LNB

Thanks everyone for your help.  This problem has been resolved.  Just so you know what it was that I have spent the last 5 hours trying to figure out here goes.

Early on I tried to mirror the set up that is on the other HD receiver in my home.  It showed slimline 5 and it showed 02 multiswitch.  I ALWAYS got an error message telling me that there was an error with both signals and to try the set-up again.  So I did.  Over and over.  I went through all of the slimline 3 and slimline 5 options and I kept getting the same error message each time.  I was starting over again at the beginning of the list and when I tried slimline 5, even though I got the error message I selected continue and all of a sudden things clicked and I now have all of my HD channels.  I sure wish I had tried that hours ago.  But, bottom line is that I have them now.  Thank you to everyone to helped.  You really did help and I appreciate your input.  Have a great weekend!  rla

the error message means that your signals levels are not up to DirecTV standards.  if you don't mind posting your signals, when can tell you how good or bad they are.

You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners. If you have a DVR it's important to check BOTH satellite tuners.

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner on the new post you create, using the example below as a guide. (The example below is only an example and not a form that will appear in your post unless you "cut" and "paste" it.) A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

Your numbers are way low and some of the transponders (101) are 0 which means  you are missing some channels -You need to make a service call and have your system & Dish checked out. ASAP

yeap, as I expected, your signals on the 99 and 103 sats, which delivers your HD channels, are very poor.   You can try and tackle this yourself or leave it to the pro's.  If you want DirecTV to take care of this, call DirecTV to schedule a service visit.  Free with protection plan, otherwise $50.00
