You need to use the TV's remote to change the input/source on the TV until you find the right one unless you know which HDMI port you plugged the DTV receiver into.

Both HDMI ports from receiver and tv are connected. And yet, the tv screen says no device connected. I am confused.

DirecTV boxes connect to TVs the same way, regardless if they are "smart" tvs or not.
What model are your boxes and which one is having the issue?
Verify box is powering on to begin with.
Check that HDMI cord is secure and free of debris on both ends.
Make sure DirecTV is not plugged into a "smart" power strip.
If your TV has the option, turn off HDMI-CEC.
Tune your TV to the correct input with the remote.
If that doesn't work, try another HDMI cord and even another HDMI device to see if the box, cord, or TV is the issue. You can also try unplugging power from the TV to reset it (since they don't have reset buttons). Also try removing power for a minute on the DirecTV box if a soft reset (red button) doesn't fix it.

The HDMI cord is on the DTV receiver, and the other end on the HDMI port of the tv.

I also used the TV’s remote the change the input/source. Even the tv doesn't recognize my DTV device or HDMI cable.

So you successfully changed inputs on the TV remote for HDMI-1, HDM-2, etc.? (don't expect the TV to auto change for you as that feature doesn't always work with DirecTV).
Check for any software/firmware updates for the TV. Then try another device on the TV.
