How to hook up a new SONY TV to my Directv

I had to replace my SAMSUNG TV and opted for a Sony smart tv.  From what I understand you set the TV for channels 3, or 4 and select the input Cable/Satellite).  I am using the Yellow, Red, White  cable to hook up the tv to the cable box.  The TV asked for the name of

my service provider And I entered Directv.  A message appeared saying the type of cable box HR44-500) was not recognize. I do net

get any signal.

I tried a couple of other HDMI cabes to insure it was not the cable. I noticed online that

several other people had lost the HDMI port after a storm and had gone to the RCA

connection. And that worked well for me for about 5 years. I will post the results after try a breakout cable. It would be helpful to know the pinout on the Mini-jack of the

Sony TV.  Thanks

It would sure be easier to simply replace the HR44.

Keep us posted.

I should have added that the new Sony TV I purchased was a 4K model. I wonder

if that plays into the fact that my HR44-500 cable box cannot connect to it. I already ordered a conversion unit for connecting RCA to HDMI. That may not solve the

problem??????

Thank you for confirming that information @Gulby200 .

In this case it would be necessary to take a closer look into your account and check the eligibility to upgrade the device to be Genie 2, so you can enjoy the 4K channels with your new 4K TV.

No as the HR44 doesn't get the 4K channels and the fix is to replace it and use an HDMI cable.

The TV being 4K does not stop the HR44 from connecting. You just don't get the 4K channels as that requires the only 4K box (C61K) on the TV with the main Genie being the HR54 (3rd generation regular Genie) or the Genie-2 (HS17) server tower (but that forbids other HDDVRs, limiting you to just clients).

I received the breakout box RCA to HDMI converter and installed it. The TV now recognizes the Cable box, but still doesn't get a signal. Just a buzzing noise.   There are 3 other TVs in the set up that are all working fine. I put one of those flat screen indoor TV antennas in the window and now my wife has all the local channels on that new TV. Now I have time to play with it.

I now can get the cable box (HR44-500) to work with the RCA to HDMI converter. I used a different set of RCA output jacks than I used to and can now view in standard definition.  Thanks for all the help.

@Gulby200

Glad it is working. Though be aware that with the MPEG-2 shutdown, it is wondered how long until SD itself is turned off completely. So plan that you will eventually need to replace that HR44 as that coverer solution is only a temporary stop-gap.
