How to sign up for MRV if you're using your own networking (not DECA) ...
How to Sign up for MRV if you are on Ethernet (not DECA)
OK folks, what I am about to say is not fully confirmed .. It's more from information I've pieced together from multiple sources than from one single message. It may not be 100% accurate, but should follow along similar lines:
How to Sign up for MRV if you are on Ethernet (not DECA)
How to Sign up for MRV if you are on Ethernet (not DECA)
- * On May 13th you might start receiving a message indicating that you need to call in to DIRECTV to activate MRV
- * If not, on or about May 20th, MRV will stop working and you will receive the message.
- * You will need to call DIRECTV using the phone number from the on screen message. It might be the main DIRECTV number, it might be a special number (I don't know).
- * Beginning on May 13th (not before), DIRECTV CSRs should have a screen on which to allow you to activate MRV .. They will have to read you some legalese that you must agree to before MRV will be activated using your home network.
- * Once activated, you will be charged $3/month for the use of MRV and DIRECTV will not provide you support for MRV beyond the question "Would you like to upgrade to DECA?"
Odds are there will be a few growing pains as this ramps up.

dcd,
Before I call back, do you have a specific department you recommend for this? Earlier I spoke to "networking" and "DirecTV Home Protection Plan" CSRs, being bumped there by another CSR, from another CSR. From my experience with Customer Service, DirecTV is notorious for 10 or so transfer's per call before you get to the right department.

I still haven't found any mention of any $50 'activation fee' except here and in that one thread. Nothing in the lengthly discussions at DBSTalk either...

No specific department. But I suggest you wait a few days. Your MRV won't be cut off for at least a week. Give them a chance to work out the kinks.

We have 2 HR22 100s, an HR21 700 and 2 D12s. The HR units are hooked up via Cat5e, ethernet through a combination of 2 gigabit switches and a router/modem. Beta MRV has been working flawlessly, excepting right at the beginning, prior to another download on all of the dvrs.
I activated today-took less then 5 minutes, the lady knew exactly what I meant when I said I just wanted to use my existing network. She even checked to see if it was possible to swap the 2 d12s for HD receivers so I could get MRV on those two, tried for like 15 minutes but couldn't do it without cost so I didn't upgrade them. The pro-rated $1 something has already shown up on the account.
I'm sure it'll be hit/miss with the skill level and willingness to try regarding whoever you get on the phone. At least for a while.

I just called DIRECTV and spoke to somebody in the Networking dept...I asked what I needed and at first he quoted me the $99 deca and the $49 install fee...Then I asked about the Beta test and that a Deca is not needed. I am willing to pay the $3 to have the WHDVR but without the Deca...So he checked with Supervisor and came back and said I was right I could use the WHDVR but it wouldnt be supported through customer service or support..I said OK GREAT!!...he tried to add the $3 charge to the account but struggled so went and checked with supervisor...Then came back and changed his story and said NO i will have to purchase the Deca and Install and that ANYONE with BETA or using MRV it will stop working and you will be FORCED to upgrade to Deca with full tech install.......ITS STUPID ....
D CELL
you just called them and they seem to have worked with you...did they just add the $3 charge you are using your own ethernet networked connections correct.????
What do i have to say to them to get them to do this for me....I want the WHDVR to work to but not with the stupid pointless DECA...and INSTALL 🙂
Thanks
ps I have an HD DVR h22 or 23 i cant remember and then 2 HD recivers HR23s....i have a SWiM i believe and recievers are hooked up with coaxial....but I can run my own cat5 from the back of the HDDVR to the HD stbs right?

sungam,
yeah, I think I had a "knee jerk reaction" to the user's comment in that thread. User dcd has stated he has verified via "top authority" that no DECA = no fees for signup(and we can take that to the bank). That means if he's wrong I will look to him for my son's $50 Activation fee:0)
BTW,
Thank's for pulling some string's to get the H23 MRV software for my son...I owe you one:0)

I was given the same run around. I might try back this evening, but will probably try back in a few days, as litzdog911 suggested. It doesn't make sense for the receivers to have the functionality to do it, but they won't allow it.

d_ellis,
I'm not sure that the new "Quote Feature' on the forums is working as intended:0(

I think your right. I went ahead and editted my post... I believe it came through this time without the quote.

You might want to give it a few days and then try again. No 'magic' words that I know of, but you may have to try a few times until you get someone who knows what to do. Some CSRs just seem more motivated than others when it comes to learning new things.

jh029s,
I tried to use "quote" didn't work.
Yes, I called about 1PM EST, told her I was using the beta MRV on my wired home network, with no problems, and wanted to activate MRV, using same-that I didn't want to use/upgrade to DECA. It was done about 2 minutes later. Yes, I'm just being charged the $3/MO for MRV, using my wired home network.
I think, at least for now, it's just hit/miss with who you get and how competant they are.
Sungam, yes, motivated, that's what I meant to include with competant...

I think that if you try to put your reply after the quoted text block it doesn't work, but if you just start typing it'll put your text before the quote... let's see if this works.

Well, my text made it but the quote is missing except for the header. There are a number of issues the developers are fighting and quotations is one of them....
