HR21-100 Stuck on Step 1 of 2 on Reboot

It’s been slow and lags on the guide, so I rebooted it with the red button to see if it would clear up something. Now when it boots back up, it gets stuck on “Step 1 of 2: checking satellite settings” for like 10 minutes then crashes and reboots again. I understand it’s old, but was curious if there is a fix, or is it time to call directv for a replacement? I have already cleaned it, double rebooted, left unplugged, & held down the menu and down buttons while it reboots.

Try the red button reset again, if that doesn't work then it needs to be replaced, however DTV has few if any HR24s to replace it with so you may have to upgrade to the HS17 that is a mini client only system that doesn't allow any H or HR receivers.  There is also a new 2 yr commitment.

Then you can replace it with another mini.

Try doing the warranty replacement. If you are lucky you can net an HR24 which is the last regular HDDVR made. It has a 500GB hard drive compared to the 320GB your HR21 has. That would just be $19.95 delivery (or covered if you are paying for the equipment protection plan).

If they don't have any HR24s left for warranty, hopefully a Mini Genie client would be covered the same way by placing a warranty order. Otherwise it is a 24 month service agreement. Unfortunately Clients have less capability than a regular HDDVR, a change of equipment options I do not like.

Many reps are highly encouraging the Genie-2 (HS17) as an upgrade. It only allows Clients, which go on every TV since it doesn't go on one itself. Has 7 tuners and 2TB space so is an upgrade to a regular Genie standalone, other than no Picture in Picture. A Genie and 2 HDDVRs is more capable than the Genie-2, but with only 1 regular HDDVR it depends on what you need overall.

As a note, recordings do not copy from a replaced box.
