HR23-700 how to test to see if hard drive is failing?

i'm having multiple issues w/HR23-700 receiver. error 818 even though ethernet cable run from receiver to router/gateway, supposedly dish out of alignment, slow responses from remote even with new batteries - no matter the 2 remotes we have-sometimes works fine, request to replay show from beginning (<<) button fails.

I want to test  to see if the hard drive is dying.   is there a way to do that?

Hi @merlin88merlin, we want to help you with your receiver.

Please try restarting the receiver by pressing the red reset button or unplugging it from the power source. Then let's check how to reconnect your HD DVR to the Internet.

Let us know if additional assistance is required.

@merlin88merlin

Yes there is a way to test and attempt to repair a failing hard drive.

These are instructions from an older post of @litzdog911 who can chime in if I missed anything.

Run the Built in Self-test (BIST) to try and repair your hard drive. To run the hard drive checks, please follow these steps:

* Reboot DVR via red button inside card door.

* When you see "Running receiver self-check" press select

* You will see "Entering Diagnostics Mode..."

* Select Advanced Tests Menu -> Hard Drive utilities -> Short Smart test

You can also run the file test, and the DVR can sometimes repair a bad file report.

* If the other tests pass, run the surface test.   Warning: This process could take several hours to complete. You may want to run it overnight.

The good news is that every attempt is made to save programming. This is less destructive than a reformat all and could provide you with a more stable system if you are having problems that appear to be related to the hard drive.

You can certainly run the test above but none of the errors you describe are indicative of a failing hard drive. A failing hard drive usually results in the receiver rebooting on its own frequently.

Sorry, I don’t really have any other than see what upgrade options are available to you. I’ve still got an old HR-22 I wish would die. I understand the slow responses quite well, I just live with it.
