HR24 upgrade to 4k Genie

Hello - I am considering upgrading the 4 receivers I have as I am having an issue with one of the HR24's.  I am curious what the forum recommends:  to upgrade to all Genie or just upgrade the 1 HR24 I am having issues with.  I am not interested in Gemini.

Current setup:  HR24-100, HR24-200, and HR24-500 (2) all with whole home DVR, and I have the $8.99 protection plan.  I know, I know, but I didn't check the forum first before adding that.

I could go with the Genie2 and mini's or some combination of Genie and HR24-500.  Thoughts?

Hello, upgrading your equipment is possible whenever you'd like. Prior to proceeding, we'll need to review your account and determine whether there is any cost associated with the upgrade. We're sending you a PM to work on this together. William, DIRECTV Community Specialist

There is no 4K Genie there are only 4K mini clients, the C61K and C71WK.  The HS17 Genie2 is capped at 7 tuners so only 7 TVs max with a 2TB hard drive and the account will not allow any non client receivers.

There is no 4K Genie, only a 4K Mini Genie Client. But it doesn't have tuners or recording space of its own so for many a Client can be a downgrade.

Since all 4 of your boxes are HR24s you have 8 tuners and 2TB recording space total. Genie has 5 tuners and 1TB recording space. So replacing 2 boxes for Genie and 4K Client changes total to 9 tuners and 2TB space. Remember this means 2 TVs are depending on the same box as a Client cannot work by itself. And they share a hard drive.

If you choose to do the upgrade, recordings are lost from the 2 boxes, so be caught up first. No change in monthly bill since you already have Whole Home DVR. Protection plan means nothing as you get free upgrades without it as long as it has been over 2 years of good active service since your last upgrade. That protection plan tends to be a waste of money as Service calls ($99) and delivery of replacement boxes ($19.95) should not occur often enough to make the plan cheaper. Though complete the upgrade first if you choose so there are no hiccups.

Do NOT get the Genie-2 (HS17) as you would replace all boxes with Clients loosing all your recordings and reduce to 7 tuners.

Suggest -you Swap out one Hr24 (upgrade) to a HR54 --That will allow you to Keep you current receivers and expand your recording possibles as well as viewing recorded Content. If you wish to View Channels 104-107 Directv 4K Channels --You need to add 4k service (no charge) also you will need to add a C61K-700 -to View those channels as well as recorded 4K content on the Hr54 --from those channels.
