HR34 Order Placed, but, am SURE they have it wrong...

Someone sanity check me here. I'm coming back to DirecTV after more than a decade away. I've had FITS getting this order placed.

I have 3 HDTV's. I have successfully gotten the HMC (HR34) ordered for my new account. I requested that I have the capability to add 2 more HDTV's as clients off the HMC. The TV's are NOT RVU capable televisions.

My understanding is that I would need:

-HR34 - Main Television

-Programming package

-DVR Service

-Whole Home DVR Servict

-2 H24 Receivers to act as RVU clients for the 2 other televisions.

What is on the order:

-HR34

-Programming Package

-DVR Service

No Whole Home, No additional receivers.

I placed a call to attempt to rectify this when I saw the confirmation email, and, the agent wanted to setup the HMC, then a second service with an HDDVR and HD receiver with Whole Home. I just wanted the Whole Home service and 2 "client" receivers added to the order...

What's right?

You are.  You need two "client" Receivers for the other two HDTVs.

Those would be the H25's, right?

Is there a backdoor number I can call to get an intelligent agent to speak to?

It has been horrible trying to get new service... I'm begging to spend money with DirecTV, and have been through 4 credit checks, 5 order ID's, and 5 new accounts.

They could be any HD Receiver.  Most likely you will get H24s or H25s because they have the WHDVR DECA coax networking built-in.  Other HD Receivers require an external DECA adapter.

I'm not aware of any "backdoor" number.

Forgive my piecemeal questions. I sincerely appreciate any advice or guidance.

For the two items of hardware needed, and, the service change, would you recommend calling in after the install on Saturday to arrange such or do you think the installer might have the gear and phone available already?

The installer *might* have the gear on their truck.  But without that stuff on your work order, it's unlikely that he'll simply install it for you.  Best to get a hold of DirecTV before your installation date and get this sorted out.

Anything added after the install will be billed at full price so get what you need the first time.

I'm on the phone again... Sigh... Funny, I can do this online perfectly... But I'm trying to avoid a 5th credit check. Now awaiting a supervisor because the agent is having "technical system difficulties" and asked me to call back in to the exact same number.

Ok, total of 11 calls, and 4 credit checks, and I canceled the order(s). Two refunds coming to my credit card.

Went online and recreated the exact same order how I wanted it, and with the HR34 in about 45 seconds. Went through checkout process within 5 minutes of that, and, selected the same install date and window.

Saved 20 bucks on processing on top of that. I'm in a unique area, and was early to the U-Verse game since my home has FTTH, but, I will be glad to get rid of those Window$ CE powered boxes they use. Always loved DirecTV and am glad to be coming back.

did not see it mentioned so I am throwing it out here.  the other two receivers that you are ordering are not "true" RVU clients.  they will act as regular receivers with WHDVR access to the HR34.  so basically no live trick play or On demand would be available via the HD receivers.

Also, be aware that unless you are in the "testing" area, you may NOT get the HR34, more then likely you will get the HR2x series AND

there is NOTHING you can do about it.  It does not matter WHAT OR WHERE you ordered the equipment/service.

JUST BE AWARE.

Thanks for the cautions... Yeah, without RVU Televisions, or specific clients, the tuners will be similar to clients but will actually be using the underlying technology and not using RVU per se.

The good news is that as of 6AM CT today, the HR34 is specifically selectable and order(able). It has a different acquisition cost, and is specifically listed on my order. Whew...

I should have just done this all myself the first 11 times.

glad you were informed so you would not be disappointed when everything is installed.

I was happy too soon. Contracted installer arrived, without the equipment, and without the knowledge. He didn't understand the concept of the client/server, but was very friendly.

I guess I will wait for DirecTV to call me.

Well, I have hope again. The installer called and they just found that they DO have my receivers. He's going to come back.

Back to tech... I already have a a Home PNA network on the coax that will go away (ATT U-Verse). I have also successfully run a MoCA network so that should indicate the Coax is in good shape, right? I also have a Gigabit Ethernet network setup in the house parallel to the coax. Ethernet to the internet is also available in my basement, at the SE corner of my house which is where the demarc is for all my other services...

So, should the installation look like:

Dish, multiple coax to SWM.

SWM to basement, single coax.

Basement to 3 rooms, single coax run each

DECA module in basement, bridge to ethernet for internet access...

Do I have this right? Also looked at the image at http://forums.directv.com/pe/RepositoryFileDownloadServlet/10718386/SWM%20DECA%20install[22].jpg
