Thank you.

HR44 is the 2nd generation Genie which is a proper receiver (Whole Home HDDVR), not a tower.

The Genie-2 (HS17) is the only Headless Server tower (doesn't go on a TV itself).

User manual has front and back panel picture/diagram for the HR44 and some others: DIRECTV_HDDVR_HR20-44.pdf

What exactly are you trying to figure out?

Junoper I gave you the wrong information.  That was the receiver that replaced.   What they replaced with is in the image below.  I still would like the information for this receiver HS17-500 like you sent for the other one..  Thank you.

DIRECTV Genie 2 DVR (HS17/Genie Server)

Key differences to know.

HS17 is server tower, so doesn't connect to TV. Is one more box installed than you have TVs. Should not count towards the per TV fees (though a few had an account bug where it did).

Only supports Clients. Forbids other receivers (such as HDDVR). This hard caps tuners. Plus if it goes down, then all your TVs go down.

As Clients can only use a single tuner each, there is no Picture in Picture (PiP) feature.

At this time, it does not support the Local Channel Connector (LCC) that is in testing. That only supports 2nd/3rd generation Genie (HR44/HR54) for now.

The positives of this model is that up to 7 Clients can be in use at one time, where the regular Genie line could only do 3 (but could make up for that with HDDVRs). Can support up to two 4K Clients using a 4K channel at the same time (HR54 could only do 1). And this is the only model with the wireless video bridge (WVB) built-in to connect to wireless Clients (C41W and C61W).
