Hi @Doubleaxe, thanks for your question about the 5.1. GHZ Wi-Fi band.

Let us share that the HS17 Genie 2 receiver doesn't include the 5GHz Wi-Fi internet interface feature, it only has 2.4 GHz. Our HR54 Models are the ones with 5 GHz Wi-Fi capacity, If you wish we can check the options to upgrade your equipment.

Let us know, if you would like to proceed. We're here to help!

The 2nd/3rd generation Genies HR44/HR54 (and revised HR54R1), as well as the newer (but restrictive) Genie-2 (HS17) have the internal CCK that supports both 2.4 and 5GHz.

It is the original Genie (HR34) and earlier HDDVRs that had to use the external CCK accessory that only supported 2.4GHz.

There is no 5.1 WiFi band. There is 5.1 Dolby and some CPUs can operate at a speed of 5.1GHz, but those are not WiFi bands.

Yes -that's the first sign the D*TV wifi board is going bad --it will work for awhile longer a 2.4 and you won't notice any degrade in service. when it fails all together --you will need to connect to a Lan cable at some point.

I've had a Hr54 since 2015 and it from 5.1 to 2.4 and late 2021 I had to connect a Lan cable and it no longer see's my wireless network.

You can still Download VOD --so if you call for service --they will only replace the server (meaning) you will lose all your series links and recorded programs --they will never fix the wireless issue as it still works for now.

You mean 5Ghz, not 5.1 right? Just checking as almost seems as you had a hiccup while typing that sentence. Otherwise, could you elaborate on 5.1 as that has me curious.

I am referring to 5 GHZ wi-fi band - seems the option to connect to 5 Ghz does not show up when scanning for available networks. Hope that clears that up. Thanks for the help//

Hold on, I wasn't trying to start anything. I was checking to make sure I hadn't missed a technological advancement as it is sometimes harder to keep up these days. Certainly not trying to inflate my post count.

Sorry, I do struggle when I see things that don't quite add up or phrasing that seems awkward (at least to me) and have trouble moving forward. I don't mean anything by it. I understand my being as precise as I can make it is rough for others for the flow of communication. Again, I apologize.

Hi @Doubleaxe, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

The Genie 2 HS-17 is only compatible with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Internet Interface, the one that is compatible with 5 GHz Wi-Fi Internet Interface is our Genie 2 HR54.

Please let us know if you want to explore into options for your equipment. We're here to help.
