I dream of fast Genies again

HR 44 with 3 minis. Sooooooooooo slow that I have decided to stop watching DirecTv until they forget about all of their lost customers and actually fix their software so people can watch TV again. I am disgusted by the poor performance of this system and I hope there is a solution to this. Also might have something to do with HD channel availability on the 101. I don’t know but this is driving me insane. To watch a recorded show, I must wait at least a minute after I press list to actually see my list. Transports don’t work at all. Guide is intermittent. Any help would be appreciated

Try a search for    clearmybox    on the Genie this will dump the guide data and other things, it will take a day or 2 to rebuild it, any programs set to record will.

Also with 3 Clients you are at the max of what it supports (at the same time). It is suggested to have HDDVRs instead of Clients as they each have their own processing power, so takes some load off the Genie. You have 2 additional tuners and 500GB recording space for each additional DVR. Plus if Genie goes down all Clients go with it as they cannot work independently, but full receiver boxes still work. No monthly cost difference between Client, HDDVR, or even HD non-DVR (1 tuner, can see what all the others have recorded.

Wiring is an issue. I seem to have unexpectedly gained some speed and functionality. Apparently there are others listening, possibly providing mystery updates. I live with a lot of s**t, this is just another thing that is out my control.

PSSSST: Just a little faster, please. I know you are listening....

Background software updates will not fix wiring or any other hardware issue. If wiring is the cause then a service call is needed. If the main Genie box itself is the problem, not the connections between the boxes or the Clients just putting too much load on the Genie, then get a warranty replacement.

Also make sure the Genie is in a well ventilated spot (and out of direct sunlight) and the vents are free from dust or other debris. As it has a bit of a computer inside, any inefficient airflow or excessive heating can cause issues over time, wearing out the components faster than normal wear and tear.

This is a public forum, not customer service. And updates are not by individual customer, put pushed out all at once (or at least in batches). So there is not some agent sending a magical fix just to your box.

In addition to fixing any technical issues, I highly recommend using your next free upgrade to replace a Client with an HDDVR. That will help the setup by one less thing the Genie has to run. They still communicate with each to view recordings of course.

Adding more wired boxes is a problem. The current wiring is fine and within specification

You mentioned wiring was an issue, so I though you were referring to the technical issue.

If your Clients are wired, then replacing with an HDDVR would not be a problem as that is essentially a swap. If not a single Client is wired, so you never put wires in their location, well yes that would require a bit more work from a tech. However by nature of the technology, wired is preferred over wireless.

If you have wireless Clients, make sure that any time you do a reset that it is in a specific order. Genie > wireless video bridge (WVB) > clients. Just make sure reset is complete before moving to the next one in the chain. This ensures the "brain" is refreshed first before starting to resync the connections.
