I have directv in my home and one big reciever and two smaller boxes for two other tv's. I want to add a tailgater to my travel trailer,

I have Directv in my home and it works fine. I want to add a tv out in my travel trailer and use the tailgaiter kit to add the trailer tv to my primary account. In my house I have one large receiver and two much smaller boxes, at the other tv's. Do I need to buy/order another large receiver to put in the trailer? One guy at Camping World said that he thought I'd have to get one from Directv to make the tailgater work? Help   (Edited per community guidelines)

You would need a receiver (i.e. H25) or HDDVR (HR24). This would need to be ordered through an Authorized 3rd party retailer for two reasons. DirecTV will only install in the home itself, plus they have moved away from standalone boxes. Whether from DirecTV or 3rd party you do not own the box so is returned like the others and there is still a 24 month service agreement from the day it is activated.

As a note if that "big receiver" is the Genie-2 (HS17) than you cannot do this as it forbids standalone boxes on the account.

You would need either the Winegard Trav'ler, or a slimline SWM dish on a tripod/sled mount. This is because DirecTV has been shutting down their MEPG-2/SD-only feeds so other dome/dishes that have been available for RVs and like for years must be replaced. Unfortunately since the shutdown isn't complete, many 3rd parties are still selling older models to offload their stock while it technically could work in some areas.

You have posted personal info on a public forum for the scammers of the world to use and it will be removed unless you do.
