If I upgrade my dead HR24 HDDVR to a Genie can I still use my working 2nd HR24 HDDVR in my camper when I am working out of town?

I have had 2 HR24-500 HDDVR's and 1 HD receiver for a long time. Recently one of the HR24's gave a storage device critical fault error. Diagnostics code: 22-447. The other 2 receivers are still working. If I upgrade these to a Genie setup can I still keep the 1 working HDDVR active to use in my travel camper? I sometimes work out of town for a couple months at a time and will use 1 of the HDDVR's there so I can have programs recorded there as well. The camper work location is remote and no internet service is available for streaming. I have also been paying for the 8.99 protection plan for many years as well. I talked to a representative on the phone a few weeks back about this but that night they were doing system maintenance so no service could be scheduled at that time. I am currently working out of town for a few more weeks using my DVR in the camper so it's not a problem yet so I haven't called back to schedule an appt. But I would like to know if keeping my current older DVR active is an option at least until it dies while upgrading my home equipment to a Genie. Thanks

Most likely, no.

They'll want to "upgrade" you to the HS17 Genie Server. That product only supports Genie Mini Client boxes, so your HR24 cannot be used. And the Mini Client boxes won't work in your travel camper. Best bet is to try to replace your HR24 with another HR24, but they might not want to do that.

Ideally you would want to warranty replace the HR24 and upgrade the HD non-DVR to a Genie (not the Genie-2 HS17). That way you get the most capability at home but can still take a dedicated receiver with you. Only upgrade, instead of warranty replacement, the bad HR24 if you prefer to keep the Autotune feature of the HD non-DVR.

However, AT&T has been hard pushing for a client only setup with the Genies. The Genie-2 (HS17) is a client only system which is not friendly for camper/RV setups as Clients cannot work without the main box.

If you can get a Genie, 2nd/3rd generation (HR44/HR54), then that would be fine. But do not accept the Genie-2 (HS17) or you will have a downgrade to your setup.

The Equipment Protection Plan for most people is a waste of money. Service calls are $99, delivery of warranty replacement boxes $19.95, remotes $15 (though cheaper through Amazon and the like), and you get a free upgrade after 2 years since your last one anyway. There is no way the EPP at $8.99 a month ($107.88 a year) is cheaper as you keep paying for it whether you use it or not.

If you decide the EPP is not worth it because of the money pit it is, I would suggest at least do the upgrade first just to be sure you recouped what you could out of it.

Depends on Who Holds your D*TV Account?  If AT&T they will only replace it with a HS-17 --which means you will lose all your HD & Hd Receivers and no longer be able to take a receiver on the road.

However-if your Account Stayed with D*TV you can replace any HD or HDDVR receiver with a Hr44 or Hr54 and keep your current setup
