Increase memory capacity of Directv

I have Directv HR44 reciever, 1Tb of memory and want to have greater capacity. How should I do that? Does Directv have larger capacity equipment?

The Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) supports an external eSATA hard drive. Early days suggested up to 4TB, but there is no official known hard cap, so people have used 12TB or more.

Earlier HDDVRs (up to HR24) have a hard cap of 2TB.

Clients, like Mini Genies, share the space of the Genie so cannot increase separately.

External is used in place of the internal so you will not have access to the existing recordings while connected. This is to prevent unauthorized transfers. As a note, the eSATA ports are a bit delicate so not intended to swap often.

The revised version of the 3rd generation Genie (HR54R1), and the Genie-2 (HS17) after the first run of them (no separate R1 designation), do not have eSATA ports so going forward they dropped support for external hard drives.
