Install crew does not show up, does not call or notify

I made an appointment for an equipment upgrade since the representative on the phone told me I was overdue for new equipment. So now the installer has missed 2 appointments with no explanation. So how do I know they will EVER show up?

I'm going to cancel and switch to DISH since I have no other alternatives in my area. This is rediculous.

Did you call them? Them calling you is usually a scam.  Unless you have an MPEG2 system there really no reason to upgrade until a receiver fails.

If the rep called you, it was a scam and a well known one at that as has been going on for years. DirecTV does not call you to swap or upgrade equipment.

However if you called DirecTV's publicly listed customer support number and made the order, then I would callback and submit a Field Service Request (FSR) complaint for the missed appointments. There is an issue with low staffing on techs since the pandemic so they have been struggling to keep up ever since.

Just to be sure you end up with the right options (even if order was official), what are the models of each box you have now? Being told you are "overdue" might just be agent looking to pad their stats when it is not an actual improvement for you.
