Installation bad, now have hole in wall
I recently upgraded to a HD DVR. Our sat is on the ground 1 ft away from the house so the tech ran a cable along the side of our house about hip height and just drilled a hole in the front where the existing cable was and left it. The outside hole is not sealed, the hole inside my house is not covered up with a plate, and the cable runs along our house. I looked around at other houses and their cable is not ran like that. I don't believe running the cable along the siding to hide the cable is a custom job. I believe they did this because the neighborhood we live in, they thought we wouldn't care about how our house
looks.
What can I do to get them to come out and fix this horrible install job they did? I have tried to call, but they claim any work that is work is a custom job, but this cable job is totally unacceptable.

this is what I know. the hole on the outside should have been sealed with silicone. wall plates are not usually used for outside cabling but at least a bushing should have been installed. cable is wrapped around the house in a neat fashion. if your install was not like this, then call them back to finish the job.

Here are some shots of my install which was considered standard. #1 shows the coax coming from the roof and wrapping around the house. #2 shows the ground block and the drip coils. #3 shows the entrance through the wall of the house.

If Directv doesn't come out and fix this, go to your local hardware store and buy a tube of waterproof caulking in, appears to be white color and fill in around the wire. I am almost a hundred and I did it myself.

I am a former Directv installer know working for a contractor for Comcast doing install. and in two years never had to back and fix stuff.
talking about the first two pic, You have plastic siding. and you would not want a little hole every 16 to 20 inches to hold up the cable. so to tuck the cable under the house is the right thing to do. it dose not look the best it beats tons of little holes. the will allow water under your siding,
Pic 3 no one should drill into plastic siding like they did. if there was a cable there before. then he just made the hole bigger. and used a grommet like Directv requires. if you have an older KAKU Sat on your house and Im thinking you do they you have to have 2 wires to your dvr for it to work proper. I.E recording two shows at once. I don't think the tech pulled out an old cable and just added a new one leaving the dead one there.
that is a double cable weather seal and it looks like two new cables. may have pulled the old one out.
As far as not using silicone you have to look really close to the back and side of the weather seal. the idea is to put enough to close the hole but not so much that you can see it from 10 feet away.
So yes from what I can see the tech did things bye the book. and looks like he did an ok job he did not put countless holes in the side of your house and he did ground it to code.
What he did wrong there should be a face plate on the inside of your house. thats just sloppy work. and he should have walked you out side and said
Mr or Miss kdcat This is what I have to do and this is how I am going to have to run the cable are you ok with this.
but from your pics and what you said that is all he did wrong.
Can we see a pic of the dish and I can tell you if you have a swim system or not.

and Direction dose not do free custom cable installs they do free basic cable installs. the wall and the floor or a will fish if you pay for it. they will not wall fish an external wall. My self I hate putting cable on the out side of a house. but unless the home owner want to pay a low voltage contractor 100 to a 1000 dollars then this is what you get. A nice looking house with big Black Cables on the side.

I believe you misunderstood the purpose of the photos that I posted. I put them up solely in response to the original posters asking about what was standard and what was custom. I wasn't seeking opinions on the install.

You can ask for them to send a request to the local office but it has to be done within seven days. The local office will call you back and they can send someone else out to have a look at the install. in that situation they can either come to an agreement with you on how to make it better or explain why it was done that way.
