Installation-771 code-Old mind
I installed an HD DVRreceiver in my LR. I replaced an HD receiver. Last winter I switched receivers between my bedroom and living room HD<- > regular dvr. This left a cable unused in the living room, and I split that cablefor the second tuner in my bedroom. The regular dvr worked fine in the bedroom, and the HD worked great in the living room.
I used the extra cable for the HD DVR, so I have two dvr's in two locations. I am getting a 771 code in the living room on tuner 2 which has the split cable connected to it. I even got a couple 771 codes on the bedroom receiver. I am more concerned about my HDDVR. Should I replace the splitter I used with a more "technical one", better equipped to split to tuners in two dvr"s????
My only caveat is I am 73, female, and very limited income...TV is my primary recreation, I do have a pot, but little else. I have been with Directv 16 years

You can't use coax splitters, unless you already have a Single Wire Multiswitch dish. Press the HR22 remote's Dash (-) button .... does it echo "swm connected" on your TV? If not, then you don't have SWM and cannot use splitters. Let us know what you find and we can advise further.

OK, then you don't have SWM. I'm surprised your setup ever worked with that coax splitter. Each Receiver and DVR tuner must have its own coax cable from your satellite dish or multiswitch. How many total Receivers and DVRs do you have now? Do you already have a multiswitch?

I still need to program my remote. I worked four hours on the installation, and on the phone with Directv...they hung up inadvertently I guess, but I had to get away from it last night, and today. Afraid I got to frustrated.
I'll do that tonight or tomorrow...Hope the dash still would work the way you wanted it to.

Look at that "outside splitter". I'm guessing it's your multiswitch. What brand/model markings are on it? Can you post a photo of it?
You know, for ~$50 DirecTV will send someone to take care of this for you.

I'll go take a picture....I didn't have the $50...They gave me the receiver, because of my length of time. It cost me $21.60 to ship which hit hard enough.

If this is what you meant. It looks bare bones to me. I was going to go "whole house" and let them install, but they blathered $199. and I thought I was just looking at $49 plus that $3.00 a month charge. Took away my elation at them giving the HD DVR to me.

So is this where I am?
1. remove splitter, send second signal to HD DVR.
2. remove coax to second tuner on bedroom dvr (I still should get all the stations whouldn't I?) And I can record, just can't watch something else at the same time, which doesn't matter, I look at that TV late at night, mostly shows I recorded.
It's really confusing that the front receiver the HD DVR seems to stream the local stations on that tuner 2(so I don't get them), I hope that doesn't happen on the back one when I disconnect that one coax..

Don't be frustrated, this is really quite simple, but the needs are absolute. There are no, "well how bout I do it this way etc" options. The picture you supplied is of a ground block and it's sole purpose is to remove any potential between the coax and your electrical system.
You'll see that the ground block has four feeds from the dish (the black wires) but only three wires feeding into the house. Those are the original three you've been using. You need to remove all splitters from inside and use only the three original coax. To supply the additional feed, you need to run another coax from the ground block to where it's needed.
This will provide four feeds which will supply two DVR's. As your current system sets, you cannot add any more receivers or DVR's unless you have Directv come and install some added equipment.

Ok, I understand absolute, I also understand my finances the rest of my life, and that's ok, but can I still:
2. remove coax to second tuner on bedroom dvr (I still should get all the stations whouldn't I?) And I can record, just can't watch something else at the same time, which doesn't matter, I look at that TV late at night, mostly shows I recorded.
Will this, at least still be possible to get it right on my living room HD DVR???

Yes, you can do that. Just be sure to remove that coax splitter. And you'll need to repeat the DVR's Satellite Setup to specify single tuner operation at the appropriate setup step.
