Install/Genie questions at a new house

We are under contract on a new house and are looking to have Directv installed. I have a few questions:

1) I'm going to book the install appt for the day after closing (also getting AT&T internet). We'll have 1 of the TVs there on install day, but movers will bring the other TV later, and I have plans to buy a third TV. Will the tech still configure all the Genie's? Or do I need to have one TV for every Genie on install day?

2) The media closet is on the main level. I imagine this is where the tech would put the wireless bridge. But we have a third floor loft which I am using as a media room. Do you think the signal would be strong enough? What are my options if I can't get a strong signal on the third floor? I'm unsure if there is a coax jack in that room, in case I need to go hard-wired. If there is, can I even mix wireless and wired Genie's?

Thanks!

Tech will only install for TVs there. So all TVs must be present at time of install. This is to verify installed in correct location, proper length of cables, and to check that everything is working.

You will only get a single Genie as only 1 per account. Intro offer is commonly up to 4 TVs, so the additional ones are usually Mini Genie Clients. Remember Clients are not receivers, so each takes a tuner from the main Genie and cannot work by themselves.

Alternatively you can get an HDDVR instead of a Client. No difference in monthly cost, but would be equipment beyond the free intro offer. So an HDDVR would have a one-time lease cost of $199 (until your account qualifies for a free upgrade.

Standard install is everything wired. There is the option of wireless Clients, but even if they are free, there is still the wireless video bridge (WVB) which is an owned accessory. Each WVB is purchase cost of $99, wired onto the coax like other boxes, and has an 80 foot range (if no signal or physical interference in-between).

You can mix wired and wireless, but only Clients have a wireless version. Receivers are wired only. Standard install is prepared that you have no pre-existing coax at all. Companies don't require pre-wiring as they provide what is needed in most cases.

The Genie-2 (HS17) server tower is the only model with the WVB built-in, but is restrictive by design as forbids receivers. And though improved, it is still dealing with some post launch bugs. So is suggested to avoid this one model.

All TVs have to be there before the tech will install anything.

Only the HS17 Genie2 has a WVB built in so you may have to buy one or two more at $99 and you may find them cheaper online, their free air range is 80 ft. and yes you can mix wired and wireless.

Ok thanks for the info all. This is what I plan to do now:

- Will order the install with wireless genie option ($99 upgrade)

- Will bring 2 TVs on install day. I will order the additional genies later in the year when I buy the new TVs (I guess I will have to pay equip fees then)

- I will have the tech install the wireless genie in the 3rd floor media room. If the signal is not strong, I'll have him decide what's the best option (either installing another wireless bridge on 2nd floor, or going with a wired connection on 3rd floor if I have a co-ax jack there).

Ordering boxes later in the year will not be covered by the intro offer. So you will have to pay the one-time lease costs per box at that time ($99 Client, $99 HD non-DVR, $199 HDDVR).

Just wanted to post a follow-up. The signal is fine from the media closet on 1st floor to the media room on 3rd floor. So no need for a wired connection up there, or a second wireless bridge. I am happy.

another genie client will cost you $99 after the initial install, so get another TV from somehere (borrow it maybe) then you will get the third client free as part of the install.

@MaryClark

You mention cable TV and internet, but this is the forum for DirecTV which is by satellite and is not a internet provider. Please explain in detail what is going on so the community can try and help. And consider starting a new thread if not the situation this thread was for 8 months ago.
