Genies have 5 or seven tuners and have 1or 2 TB hard drive those are the only differences.

What DVR model number do you have?

There are mixed reviews because there are several different models of "Genie".

What are the models of each box you have now? That way a direct comparison can be made.

@basset1boxers2 those are definitely some old receivers. My recommendation would be to swap that old DVR R15 with a new Genie DVR. Please say ‘swap’ so that it isn’t confused with something else.

The R15 will be obsolete when DTV finishes the MPEG2 shutdown.

HDDVR 100 is not a model number. If you mean -100, that is the manufacture code after the model number.

HR22 is a bit older, but a decent model.

R15 is a MPEG-2/SD-only DVR and must be replaced. DirecTV is in the middle of shutting down their MPEG-2 feeds.

Assuming that first one actually is an HDDVR, then a Genie (not Genie-2) to replace the R15 would be the way to go. Do NOT replace anything else.

With a Genie you should get the 2nd or 3rd generation (HR44 or HR54) depending on stock.

It has a 1TB hard drive and 5 tuners, compared to the 500GB and 2 tuners of the HR22.

You should already be paying $10 HD and $10 DVR. This would add $3 for Whole Home DVR. That allows all boxes to watch what is on any of your DVRs.

The R15 (only box replaced) would not have recordings transferred as they are encrypted to the exact DVR. Be caught up first before an upgrade.

Based on the age of your boxes, I take it has been a long time since your last upgrade so should be due for a free one. It does still come with a 24-month service agreement.

Do NOT get the Genie-2 (HS17) as that would replace all your boxes, be a restrictive setup, and overall capability would be a downgrade to what you have now. For up to a couple TVs, it can be fine, but your setup is already more powerful than that new Headless Server tower can reach.

Sorry, one adjustment to what I said. Yes say "swap" as because the MPEG-2 shutdown means new equipment is required to continue service. So, you can swap the R15 getting a Genie without the service agreement and can save your upgrade if you need it in the near future.
