Is there an upgrade to my wireless genie equipment?
Hi all... looking for help. I currently have the direct tv wireless genie setup with main box HR54-200 and two minis C41W-500. One tv on a mini is 4k but that isn't as important as content is still slim I believe. My question is, is there a better setup equipmentwise? I have had these units now for over 4 years and staying to be buggy. They lag sometimes and I have to reset the minis once every couple of months. Just curious if its time to upgrade. Also if I were to upgrade, is there a way to transfer the shows on my dvr or is it a start over situation?

You don't replace your Genie DVR (HR54) with an upgrade.
I agree there is too little content to replace a current Mini Genie Client with the 4K model (C61K).
Upgrade would be replacing a Mini with an HDDVR (i.e. HR24). Since it is a receiver, not a Client, it has 2 tuners (instead of stealing 1 from the Genie) and 500GB recording space. With full independent processing, that can take load off the Genie. Plus being wired (only Mini Genies have a wireless model), it is more reliable per the nature of the technology.
Upgrade comes with 24 month agreement. Free upgrade normally only covers 1 receiver, so if you want to replace both then the one-time lease cost of an HDDVR is $199.
Just do NOT get the Genie-2 (HS17). Restrictive and buggy system. This would require replacing your HR54 as there may only be one main Genie on the account.

Thank you for the response. I need wireless for two of my tvs and wasn't sure if there was something more reliable in that department then what I have. I guess I will have to wait and hope something comes along eventually. I have had direct tv for about 11 years and have had only two sets of equipment in that time... which isnt a bad thing, just looking for something better... eventually.

Only wired is more reliable.

The coax can be installed in most rooms. Just depends on the details on how easy or costly it is.
Wired is more reliable than wireless, just how it is.
Satellite receiver boxes aren't a technology that innovates very fast. So Genie, specifically the 3rd generation (HR54) is the highest end. Regular HDDVRs (most current model HR24) beat out Clients with capability and reliability. Clients simply have the benefit of the smaller form factor, or for the desire of wireless but at reduced capability. There is a 2nd wireless model now (C61W) which might be used if you ever have to do a warranty replacement.
