King Quest VQ4100
I purchased a King Quest VQ4100 in 2017 and used a H24 receiver. Everything went fine until our trip his year in July, no more tv. I spent an hour on the phone with a direct tv tech. and had no luck. He said, you need a new receiver and scheduled an appointment to come to our house. Tech came to the house and had a new receiver, but said this one will not work and checked our old one and said they disconnected this one. They don't have these anymore and they are not sending a signal to HDM2 anymore. I can purchase my own H24 box on amazon and other places, but will it work?? Will ATT let me activate it and will it work for the dome. I hate to spend the money on something that will not work or do I have to throw my King dome away???

What DVR/Receiver model numbers do you have at home? What type of satellite dish?
Your H24 should still work fine, but you'll need to replace the King Quest with an HD-compatible dish, like the Winegard Trav'ler or DirecTV SlimLine.
It's unfortunate that they deactivated your old H24 because they probably won't reactivate it. Depending on what equipment you have at home, you should be able to take one of your home boxes with you. Or get an H25 HD Receiver from DirecTV. It really depends on your home equipment.

I was told by the Tech. that my receiver boxes at home will not work for the King. I have boxes for all of my TV's at home and no problems, so if I understand your message right, I need to get a different dome and throw away my old one?

Need to know what DVR/Receiver model numbers you have at home.
But yes, you'll need to replace that old dome.

DirecTV started shutting down the old MPEG-2 feeds beginning in April 2019.
H24 is MPEG-4 so receiver is fine.
Your King Quest will not work with DirecTV's MPEG-4 feed as it only handles their MPEG-2.
Only the Winegard Trav'ler, or a regular slimline dish on a sled/tripod mount if you are ok with self-aiming.
DirecTV does not install in RVs unless permanently parked so must go through an RV installer.
For future reference: You can no longer purchase used equipment that someone may have had purchased to own. Was more for the old SD days, but issues occurred when equipment was stolen, still active on an account, the prior user didn't understand theirs was leased, or box is too old to be used going forward. As such DirecTV's new account system does not allow reactivation of boxes. Once deactivated they must be returned to DirecTV, or recycled if too old. Those 3rd party retailers, such as Amazon, Solid Signal, etc. could only offer leased equipment anyway. But there have been issues within this last year of activating boxes from those 3rd party retailers, a bug in the new system that hopefully is resolved soon.
So for your situation, H24 is good but King Quest dome must be replaced with equipment that is specifically compatible with DirecTV's MEPG-4.

Thank you for the help. I will stay away from any dome and purchase a fold up roof mount slimline dish that will pick up a signal automatic. It was kind of of a pain to find just the right spot with the dome for a signal.

You can still get the H24 through solid signal or camperID. Also I’m not sure where the information about the King quest dish is coming from as of today 03/32/2021 it still works just fine.

DirecTV has been shutting down their MPEG-2/SD-only feeds. So the King Quest dish is obsolete. Though it may work in a few areas still, it soon will work nowhere. The options now are a slimline SWM dish on a tripod/sled mount, or the Winegard Trav'ler.
Shutdown started April 2019 but internal challenges and everything resulting from Covid, has slowed the process. But it will complete. DirecTV will not continue to support outdated tech. SD-only services grandfathered in late 2015 and SD-only TVs haven't been made in over a decade. Time to move forward or get left behind.
