looking for powerline adapter suggestions

I am using older netgear powerline adapters...they just won't cut it for MRV. Is anyone using a Powerline adapter that is working well for MRV? I am tempted to try the Belkin Gigabit HD starter Kit. They claim 1000mbps but of course I doubt that speed can be reached except in perfect conditions...

Any other thoughts on powerline adapters that are working?

Thanks!

I've had no problems with the 85Mbps PowerLine Adapters that DirecTV sells via our DirecTV.com accounts.

ya know, I can't get a like powerline adapter to work well...I can see the shows but they just won't transfer for me at that speed. I can get SD shows to show up but they break up etc and overall quality isn't watchable and HD shows won't transfer at all for me using 85mbps...So I am looking for another option.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share the information.

Before you spend one penny upgrading your network to accommodate MRV, read the sticky post at the top of the page carefully. Your network isn't going to work with MRV after the beta period is over. The new system will give you the equivalent of a hard wired system

Then your problem isn't the Powerline Adapters. It's more likely your home's electrical wiring. Some homes have multiple AC power "branches", and the data bandwidth can drop significantly if the two ends of the network connection are on different branches. I doubt you'll have better luck with "beefier" Powerline Adapters, but it can't hurt to try. Just be sure you can return them if they don't help any.

Of course, none of this will be an issue when you can get the DECA adapters.

I see... I was under the impression and I thought I had read it somewhere that you would be able to use your own network but it wouldn't be supported. My misunderstanding...

Good thought! Thanks for getting me on the right track! Don't worry, I
never buy any of this stuff w/o the right to return it.. 🙂 I will probably
just get someone to wire these up for me so I don't need to worry about the
network for MRV. Dcd has been patiently trying to walk me through all of
this. My teachers must have had a rough time with me 🙂

Best,

Linksys has a killer new EoP unit that has a built in hub. I've used it with a xbox360, Universal Remote PSX2, Bluray player and Directv HR23. Plenty of transfer speed. Then again, I know that I'm on the same electrical leg.

I run XBOX on wifi and it works great. Run dtv off powerline and it works great for vod but not for mrv. Not sure ur unit would do me much good except to perhaps eliminate some wiring. Does it boost signal or am I missing something? (More likely than not) please excuse typos etc as I am sending off blackberry and eyesight isn't what it used to be. 🙂 thanks for sharing!

Ps can u pass along model # etc so I can check it out?

bobbyk, The idea that one will be able to use their existing network with MRV is a combination of wishful thinking and conjecture. The official word is that you'll need to use DECA. Suit yourself but if that turns out to be the case you'll have whatever it is you buy now to remind you that you were forewarned.

I'm just likely going to add the Cat5e cable at this point... no need to struggle with net settings if it's only temporary....good idea on your part! (however, I still like to know about equipment others may be using...never know when the need may arise)

I just would like to know that I can still use the my current power line adapters for VOD at the same time AS when using the other port to connect the DVR's with the cat5. I assume that will work but would like to know for sure so I know what to expect...

I figure for $18 (most of which is shipping) it's well worth it...especially not knowing when the official roll out will be coming. having waited on stuff like that before...it could be several months. Hopefully not. Thanks for the link to the website for the cabling....

Thanks dcd!

how did you set them up do they have to be connected on the same electrical circuit? In other words if one in on a different breaker than the other then it won't work right? In my situation the room where my router is has its own breaker and the room where my hddvr is in another breaker and when I plug in the powerline adapter and try to connect my hddvr to the internet I get an error 13 not connected to the internet. Any suggestions on how to fix this is appreciated.

Thanks

You're responding to a pretty old thread.  But typically powerline network adapters will work fine across different circuits in your house, provided you have relatively modern AC wiring.  Hopefully you have TWO powerline adapters ... one connected to your home network gateway/router, and one connected to the DVR.

The first thing you need to determine is whether your problem is the powerline adapters or your setup.  If you have a laptop, connect it at the Directv end on the powerline, disable the WiFi connection and see if you can connect to the Internet via the Ethernet port.  If you can, then your problem is not powerline but the way your system is configured for Internet service.  Post back your findings.  With Whole Home service I assume the powerline is connected to a BB module with an independent power supply?  Also, check your router that it's configured for DHCP auto configuration.

I never could get my Powerline adapters to work well enough for MRV if that is what you are hoping ... However, I have heard of  some success stories.  They should however work to get your DVR's connected  for VOD...... Different Circuits shouldn't be an issue.

Dcd's suggestion should be followed if you can....Also, and while I am sure you have already done this.... power cycle EVERYTHING including your DVRs.... I remember having an connection issue and having it go away after powering down my DVRs... Of course you should do the same with your modem and router.  Wish I could offer more help but you're in good hands with DCD for sure....he helped me figure several things out.

Happy New Year!

I bought the ones that directv offers I believe they are the home plug. I followed the instructions connect the ethernet cable to the back of my router then connect to the powerline adapter. Then connect the other powerline adapter to where my hddvr is but when I try to connect it get the error not connected to the internet (error 13). So I am thinking it must be that my wiring in my house is too old then. Or the powerline adapters are not working.
