lose of WIFI with DirectTV

My DirectTV is connected to my netgear router via a DECA box. It was all installed by a professional DirectTV retailer in Colorado, US Digital. I will randomly lose my WiFi signal while the DECA is connected to my router. I can restore my WiFi if I disconnect the DECA from my router or I restart the Router. Devices already hooked up to WiFi stay connected but if you turn off a device and try to reconnect it wont find the signal. I use comcast for my broadband service.

I already tried the following procedure,

  1. Power down each DirecTV DVR/Receiver by pulling its AC power cord
  2. Power down the DECA Broadband Adapter
  3. Power down your Netgear router (or reset it via its web-based setup menu)
  4. Wait a few minutes.
  5. Repower the Netgear. Wait for it to finish rebooting. Verify that you have internet connection from your PC/laptop.
  6. Power up the DECA Broadband Adapter. Wait for the lights to stabilize.
  7. Power up each DVR/Receiver.

I am about my wits end, I will cancel my agreement with DirectTV if this can't be resolved. I have a couple of friends that are experiencing the same issue. Please assist.

try this for a test

give your D* receivers a Static IP address.

Example if your dchp range is 192.168.1.100 -250

go to each box -menu setup network and start with 192.168.1.50 see if this change will stop you wireless issue.

No reason to shout.  Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page.  Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's.    With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far.  And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.

You missed a step, not sure it would fix you, but it might.  Also, you must be postitive that your router is set for DHCP and has no MAC filtering active.  The SWM power inserter plays a big role in assignaing IP addresses.   As an aside, assigning static IP addresses should never be necessary.  If it is, then something is not set up properly.

First thing to try is resetting the DECA network....it must be done in this order. Before you begin, assure that DHCP is enabled on your router if your system is connected to the Internet.  This is essential.

1. Disconnect AC power from each DVR and Receiver

2. Disconnect power from the DECA BB Adapter (black DECA BB box)

3. Disconnect power from the SWM dish Power Inserter (do you know where yours is located)?

4. Disconnect then reconnect AC power on your home network gateway/router and modem.

5. Wait a few minutes for the router to reset

6. Re-power the DECA Broadband Adapter

7. Re-power the SWM Power Inserter.

8. Re-power each DVR and Receiver

Following that, press and hold the info button on one DVR, then select more system info. Scroll down and check that Internet is listed as connected.

GL1800, that totally worked.  My laptop has remained connected to my network after waking from sleep, all day.  I really appreciate all the help. Hopefully this is the answer to the problem permanently.  Have a great weekend!

@ gl1800, seems to work so far.  Irony is that techsupport's advice doesn't work and yours just might.

I'll share with some other frustrated DirectTV friends and customers in CO, meanwhile DirectTV should hire you as a technical consultant, they need it and I am not impressed with the advice and help offered so far.

The advice on this site is from user to user-My network is wired and my whole network was going down-so I set all my network devices to static IP and the one item that cause my network trouble showed it's self. It was my sony TV --not the D* boxes or any of my other network stuff.

Hope it holds.

Thanks I ment I was more frustrated with DirectTV not any advice received on this user web site. Your solution continues to work gl1800 but I have about 5 sec lag time on my regular reciever when using list or guide buttons (not the HD DVR), which is where the DECA is connected. Not sure if it's related to creating a static IP for each DirectTV device. If it is it's a much better compromise than to loose wifi.

Thanks
