Loss of functionality with Genie RC73B remote
Here's my system:
REMOTE: RC 73B (Genie)
RECEIVER: HR54-500
AUDIO: VSX-47TX (Pioneer)
TV: UN60FH6003FXZA (Samsung)
My original RC73 worked fine. I could turn the TV and and off by toggling the "ON" button of the remote (and not affect the receiver). Now, with the RC73B, I can turn the TV on with "ON" button. But when I try to toggle it off I get a yellow exclamation point triangle with the words "Not Available" in a popup. I can turn off the TV with the "OFF" button on the remote, but that also turns off the receiver. What changed? What am I missing? Many thanks for any ideas on this.

They are not, the Genie sends the info you selected (TV make/model) to the data base the data base sends the code back like thousands of other devices. It is not the code you are getting that is causing the RC73B to not toggle the TV on/off like the RC73. I believe there is another step needed to be done on the remote to enable the on button to do it otherwise you have a very unique remote.

shannon02: Thanks for your comments. Yes, I'm as puzzled as you are. I've been through DTV's remote setup guide several times. And I'm usually pretty good at that stuff, so it's frustrating. Hopefully DIRECThelp can come up with something. Like maybe the remote is faulty, even though it's less than a month old.

Odds are against a faulty remote but that is why there are odds as it can happen. The remote setup guides are pretty generic so don't cover everything.

Hi, @Heimhenge. Thank you for your patience. The RC73B is an older version of our remote that we no longer support, which means some functionality may not be available compared to the remote that came with your receiver. Roland, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Roland: That's a disappointing response. An online search shows that the RC73 was introduced on April 30, 2015 and the RC73B on Jan 25, 2016. So the RC73B is the newer remote! Your comment makes no sense at best, and at worst seems like a lie just to end this thread.
Why would DTV remove functionality in a newer remote? Newer remotes should come with better features, and a backlit display is something everyone appreciates. I know it runs down the batteries faster, but so do all my backlit devices. Very puzzling that DTV would remove functionality in a so-called "upgrade."

I think they meant the RC7X remotes are no longer in production so are no longer supported.

Jona: So DTV has no solution to my problem? My feedback is "highly valued"? Then I guess we'll have to see what the Arizona Attorney General's consumer division thinks about this lack of true customer support.
