Move Genie Mini to another room

I currently have a Genie H34 /700 in my Family room and a Genie Mini C31-700 up in my office.  The office configuration has a SWM 1-2 spliter with one output going to the C31 and the other to a DECA to Ethernet adapter.  I want to move the C31 to another room.  However when I move the C31 to a coax connection in the other room it won't connect.

Is the coax connection the other room actually connected to your satellite SWM splitter?

As far as I know.  All of the cable is on the same system.  There isn't a junction box that is accessible anywhere.  When the system was installed they just used the existing wiring. The H34 and C31 are at opposite sides of the house and are communicating.  I've tried several other jacks in the house and the result is the same.

Unless you had DirecTV boxes in those rooms it's highly unlikely that the tech connected them to your dish. But it should be an easy job for a tech to connect up that room.

Wouldn't that have required them to change the existing wiring?  Or run a new cable?  There is no accessible junction box that the tech could have accessed and I was there when the system was installed.  He just used the existing jack in the office.  The jack is on an interior wall so its not like he ran a new cable.

I figured it out... I took another look at the outside connection. There are actually 5 coax cables coming out of the house only one of which is attached to the splitter.  Would have been nice had they just put the 5 way splitter on.

Somewhere in the house (basement most likely, or a utility room) is/are splitters sending the DTV signal to the desired outlets. Generally, only the outlets required for the installed service will be active. It should be a simple job to hook up the unused outlets for service.

Also be cautious of your boxes as both the HR34 and C31 are non-returnable (as of a few years ago) because of issues with the 1st generation (primarily with the main Genie itself). The HR34 is known for heating issues and being slow. The later 2 models (HR44 and HR54) were redesigned with a faster processor, more efficient cooling, which also resulted in a sleeker design.

So if even after getting everything plug in ok you have issues with them down the road, don't hesitate to do a warranty replacement. That would net you one of the current two models. Just be caught up on recordings first as they do not copy over.
