Are you asking about DirecTV satellite or DirecTV Stream internet service?

mother in law cottage is about 30ft away from main house, garage apartment separate dwelling 30-40 ft away. thinking of putting a tv in Gazebo about 20 feet from Garage apartment.

You could probably handle that setup with a Genie DVR and some wireless Genie Mini Clients. 30-40ft is pushing the limits of the wireless signals, especially if the signal has to travel through too many walls. I'm guessing it's not feasible to run coax cables between each dwelling?

between mother in law dwelling & main house coax is feasible. but between detached garage/gazeba area no.

Alternatively, install a receiving dish on each building if you can get regular HDDVRs (i.e. HR24) for the additional spots. No difference in monthly cost, but more up front for the custom setup as standard install covers one building/one dish.
