Need a new receiver
Would like to exchange my current receiver for an HD DVR receiver. The one I have will not record programs.

What is your current Receiver's model number?
You'll need to call DirecTV to request a DVR upgrade.

Your H24 will probably be replaced with an HR54 which adds on Whole Home DVR ($3/minth) and DVR fee ($10/month). Also, a receiver upgrade puts you in a new contract. I usually don’t recommend the HR54 for just one receiver since the $3 WHDVR fee is a waste and with Genie HD DVR receivers you can’t get rid of Whole Hone DVR.
I suggest you ask to replace the H24 with an HR24 (standalone HDDVR receiver). DIRECTV may not have those in stock anymore and you may have to end up finding one on Solid Signal (if it matters to you that much to not get a Genie HD DVR).

Is the H24 the only box you have? If so, then adding DVR service is $10 a month.
Regular HDDVRs (last one HR24) are hard to come by, and supposedly DirecTV is out of stock. The alternative is the Genie which is DirecTV's Advancecd Whole Home HDDVR. This adds $3 for Whole Home DVR.
Regular HDDVR is 2 tuners with 500GB (since HR22) recording space.
Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) is 5 tuners with 1TB recording space.
The new (though restrictive) Genie-2 (HS17) is 7 tuners with 2TB recording space.
As a note only one Genie/Genie-2 may be on the account.
