New Install Whole-Home Not working

Hello everyone,

I just had my service installed today and everything is activated when I try to use the Whole-Home DVR Service it says no networked DVR's found. It says the service is Authorized and I named both locations (livingroom DVR, Bedroom HD). I have a HR24-500 DVR in the living room with the Ethernet cable connected, In the bedroom I have a HR24-100. I'm not sure what's going on, I called tech support and they told me to go to the forums.  Thank you

There's a problem right there... Connecting an Ethernet cable to the HR24 disables the internal DECA, which is needed for Whole Home DVR/MRV to work. I assume that the Ethernet cable connects to your router/home network? If you disconnect it the receivers should see each other and MRV should work.

The proper way to connect to your home network/Ethernet  is with a separate DECA module, not through the Ethernet port on the receiver. You're going to need to get DirecTV back to install the necessary splitter, DECA module and power supply.

I disconnected the Ethernet cable and it's still not working, then I reset both receivers and keep the Internet cable disconnected and it's not working

The receiver upstairs says the receiver is configured for a network but can not detect the network.

Best to call DirecTV and request that an installer experienced with Whole Home DVR installations come back and get you up & running properly.  It's difficult for us to troubleshoot without knowing exactly how the installer networked your equipment. Clearly something was done incorrectly.

There's not a lot to do wrong with this setup, although the installer did commit one all too common sin by connecting to the Ethernet port. Both receivers have built-in DECA, so as long as nothing is plugged into the Ethernet port on either one it should just work. The only other thing I can suggest is to start it up from scratch... unplug the receivers and the PI, then plug the PI in followed by the two receivers.

Hey guys! Thanks for the reply, I'll give you guys a update. The tech came back and said that since I have the new receivers that I didn't need another DECA and to keep the Ethernet cable connected to the receiver. He did a factory reset on my dvr and now it works.

Unfortunately your tech is incorrect (this is a common misconception among techs apparently). Your Ethernet/Internet router should be connected to a separate DECA and not to the port on the receiver. This may or may not cause obvious problems, but it isn't the correct, DirecTV approved way to make the Ethernet connection. Sounds like your tech needs to review his training materials to see how it is supposed to be done.

H24 and HR24 should have nothing connected to their Ethernet ports, while earlier receivers should only have one connection to their Ethernet ports, and that must come from the attached DECA module.

I tried this exact setup and it didn't work for me. Sungam is correct. An external DECA is required to connect the receivers to your home network. (BTW, how is it possible to do a factory reset ?? did he just do a Red Button Reset or something else ?)

I agree with you guys, I don't think he set it up right. He just figured oh he doesn't know what the hell is going on so I can tell him anything. I'm having someone come out to fix it, it's not working like it's suppose to, I'm only able to watch a few shows. All of the other shows get about half way through add says unable to continue playing because the server is unavailable. To do a factory reset go to the setup menu, then select reset, it will give you 3 options to choose from, factory reset is one of them

Be aware that 'reset everything' on a DVR will delete all recordings and user settings!
