NO INTERNET
I have whole home DVR viewing. 3 DVR's and 6 other recievers all working well. However, when the tech came he took the older Existing DVR off my network and put white boxes with cat 5's attached to the dvrs and other recievers. So now, while they all talk to each other they are NOT connected to my home network i.e. no internet connectivity and not connected to my routers. No apps are available now. Why would he do that and should they come back?

Yes, they should come back and install the Cinema Connection Kit. This kit provides the installer with a Broadband DECA Adapter and power supply to bridge the WHDVR network (DECA Coax) to your home network/internet (ethernet).

Note that the system Litzdog describes is the only option, you cannot wire this with cables.

So of course before all these replies started coming in I successfully networked my 3 DVR receivers and all but 2 of the HD receivers..the other 2 are not near routers
Would i need them for that?
I have an extensive home automation system and I hate the Direct TV Techs near that. The last 2 techs that came in who came to hook up the multi room viewing were so unknowledgeable about networking and I quite frankly was quite scared to have them around. Which is probably why they only hooked up the multi room viewing and did nothing to check the networking portion.
Is it possible that they can only hook up the 2 receivers which are not near the routers (hence not near any of my extensive equipment) and be done? I have set up the receivers for all the correct IP addresses?
I will wait on your helpful replies before I give them a call

You can't simultaneously use DirecTV's DECA-based WHDVR service and the ethernet port on those Receivers/DVRs for internet access. Sounds like you're trying to connect each DVR/Receiver directly to your home network? If you can do that using ethernet cables (no wireless or powerline adapters), then you can make it work. But it won't be supported by DirecTV.
The supported solution is to have them install the Cinema Connection Kit, like they should have done in the first place. You only need ONE Cinema Connection Kit to bridge your entire WHDVR network to your home network/internet.

so here is the UPSHOT.
Techie arrives tried to put the WHITE BOX WITH A SPLITTER onto another WHITE BOX...i say to him no i need the black box...he says no...after the white box ontop of the white box doesnt work..he says he will be right back. He comes back with the black box with a proper power connector...and of course it works..Im now connected to the internet and have multi room viewing.
Thank you so much to these forums I would never have known about the CORRECT black box.
And..furthermore..why he had to come is a mystery to me..just a waste of time and money (not myne..theirs) I could HAVE easily connected it myself

Sure, connecting a Cinema Connection Kit is simple, once you see how it's done and assuming you don't need to run extensive coax. But, I'll remind you that you didn't even know they existed a short time ago. (through no fault of your own of course) Directv has gotten so many calls in the past regarding networking, they decided last spring to only support a system that was common to all and installed by them. At that time it was nip and tuck as to whether they would even activate a system that was not theirs, but at the last minute they decided that they would, but would not support those systems. We have responded to literally thousands of posts in this regard, so it remains a troublesome but easily corrected issue.
